question for techies, what bit rate is analogue radio comaparable to?
Does this answer your question?
Impossible to answer really. Analogue radio (FM or AM) has different quality issues than low quality digital.
EDIT: apparently, not impossible to answer ๐
TBH Mol, that's kinda what I was thinking, but I couldn't really put it into words effectively. So I figured, transcoding rates might be a reasonable approximation for the purposes of the thread.
I think the feeds for analogue FM from the BBC at 15bit digital for one thing, and then you have the oodles of compression that most radio stations add on.
Sceptical of that page tho. CD quality = 160kbps MP3? Hmm..
Dunno where they get the best bitrate of AAC+ at 128Kb/sec, I always rip stuff at 320Kb in AAC, so not sure where the discrepancy lies.
Your ears?
I watched a 1936 movie in HD the other day.
hmmm so if analogue is 128 then why does a cd imported to mp3 at 128 sound pony compared to radio? no real depth of bass or high treble clarity, is it software
i always use 320 as generally that is close enough to cd

That's aac you're using, not aac plus (aka AAC HE it's meant for low bit rates only)

Probably a duff encoder. Try LAME on v5 (e.g. use LAMEDROP and drag/drop a WAV file onto it).
use itunes on mac normally
