just signed up a friend to sky from BT .. good deal, free broadband and anytime calls and also £75 prepaid, just pay for line rental. Contract 12months.

I was doing online chat with BT and before I had finished the BT customer services rang. Sky went live this week and took about 10days from signing up to go live.

I switched from BT Infinity to Vodafone Superfast Broadband. Similar broadband service (FTTC) and speeds but half the price.

One thing to note is that you have to use the Vodafone router unlike BT where you can use which ever router you want.

I've been with Metronet (now Plusnet) for years and very happy, despite them having been acquired by BT. Highly recommended for knowledgeable staff with Sheffield accents.

Reason I've stayed with BT was not having to have half the drive dug up and holes through the walls for the broadband cable (previous house was with Virgin). Is there any way, with these alternative providers, of keeping the BT routing bit? I would want the equivalent broadband, TV, phone package.

I've just moved to planet and hacked my bill. I'm aware that essentially it's the same company but I'm hoping the difference in staff will make a difference to the service level

Mind you, just had OpenReach out for a couple of hours, who put in new cables and sockets cos old stuff was 'old, brittle, broken and useless' and now my broadband has jumped in speed and, it's promised, will stay fast.

So it might be worth doing that if you haven't already, just to save any potential faff with switching. Dunno.
