5 pints of Guinness between 4pm and 7pm.
5 pints of orange cordial between 7pm and 11pm.

Head feels like there's a Frenchman living in it and I want to die.
And bacon.

5 pints used to be a bloody warm up!
First proper drink since September.

Is it just me?
Am I out of practice, or should I just stay off the cordial next time?

I found beer and OJ about equally guilty in headache-causing potential. Try again without the OJ. Worst ever was tonic, though.

Five pints of basically water - I'd say you've probably flushed a lot of minerals out of your system which is why you are feeling rough.

Pretty much gave up drinking last summer as just 2 pints would result in a hangover.
Got sick of losing days to feeling like crap as a result of drinking alcohol..
Life is too short as it is to waste sitting around on the sofa with a belting headache.

Trial and error with your drinks my man....i used to be able to drink beer but find it very dehydrating now, the hangovers are awful and last nearly two days!
I start with a nice Guinness (or Newcastle Brown) but will quickly move onto G&T for the rest of the night which i seem to be able to consume like it's water and dont suffer the next day....my beer drinking days are a long time ago....which is sad as there are some cracking brews out there.

I've been off the sauce for nearly 2 weeks.

For me, it was the fact I was drinking quite a lot, and not feeling like shite the next day which got me worried.

Strangely, I have been feeling like crap for most of those 2 weeks...hopefully just the body readjusting.

Surely all the sugar in the five pints (!) of cordial will have contributed to a massive sugar high followed by a crash?
My golden rule is to eat something before bed after a big drinking session.

42, and I don't enjoy getting pished any more, never mind destroying the entire day after a session by being hung over. It doesn't take me to a happy place as perhaps it once did.

I enjoy the taste and The Moment of too many different types of drink to give it up. Real ale, single malts, nice glass of red, a G'n'T on a hot summer's day, a glass of bubbly on some spurious pretext of a special occasion...

Hangovers certainly get worse with age, I had a monster hangover last Monday, the only reason I can get away with it is I work from home, so can still be productive; the thought of having to leave the house in such a condition, drive to an office, would put me off drinking altogether.

Sounds like you all need to get back in practice.
Probably best to go easy on the cordial. Aspartame is evil!

There's really no evidence for that at all.

There is no evidence that it is not evil. It tastes like Satan's armpit and that's good enough reason to avoid it.

I've never been a big drinker, normally three pints or four at the max over a longer evening and I'm done.

Though I keep thinking of giving it up. While I may enjoy the beer and feel physically OK the next day I usually have some form of 'malaise', feeling sad/unhappy etc, which screws me up for a day or so.

Yep, lovely day outside, sitting in with the curtains shut.

I have to say, why drink in the first place?

Don't get me wrong, I drink real ale, real ale only mind but always limit my intact to two max. That way I get to ride my bike in the early morning 😆

Don't give it up, just drink better quality and less.

HTH, if not then please do continue 😉

5 pints of cordial would make me feel rough in the morning.Guiness is awful in any quantity IMHO.

Just moderate your intake, drink quality real ale and have the odd glass of water through the night.

I don't understand abstinance, but then I don't understand over indulgence either, there are few better ways to socialise than being in a good English pub.

I may be biased, 'cos I do run a pub. 😈

Oh,and my hangovers, on the rare occasions that I get them have always been dreadful.

Don't get hangovers, just feel a bit less enthusiastic about life when i have had a few. I find not mixing spirits with an evenings red wine is the key, single malts are for sipping on their own in small quantities.

43 and I love alcohol but I can't drink lots anymore without a nasty hangover.

Does beer make anybody else's knees ache?

Try mixing riding with drinking. Yesterday's mud sweat and beers ride round South Huddersfield combined an hours muddy riding with lots of hills rewarded by a ten pint pub crawl. A nice light beer (golden pippin) and I was better than I would normally be after that sort of amount. The transit between the last few pubs was interesting......

I had this last year - overindulged in the hotel on the Saturday night of a weekend away in Wales and ended up despoiling the beauty of a snowy Cwm Carn with a succession of technicolour yawns. Never again.

Drinking and riding is bad, mkaaaay?

This year have stopped drinking more than couple of pints at a time and given up the fags, feel a lot better and quicker on the bike too, 37 this week have always been crap at drinking anyway 😉

Can't be added with hangovers so don't bother anymore. Used to be able sink 5 pints a night of Joseph Holts Bitter and a good 8 on the Saturday. Then I ended up with a kidney infection and didn't drink for two years. Then just drink at weekend's.

Now I may have a nice ale or Cider in a beer garden after a good bike ride and maybe a bottle of red with the missus when we are both off together (rare occurrence)

Much rather have a coffee or a ice cold diet coke. I do smoke though which is stupid.

Class A drugs make drinking miles easier and more enjoyable. You can rack yourself another line up for when you wake up in the morning, thus heading off the hangover. It's a win/win!

If I drank 5 pints of PUB Guinness or beer I'd be hungover.

If I mixed drinks I'd be hungover.

If I drank any white wine I'd be hungover.

However if I drank good red- gallons. I'd be good.

Same with decent bottle beer, vast quantities of GOOD QUALITY Vodka or Rum.

Add sugartastic Coke and im ****ed.

This has alway been the case with me.

Went to the rugby yesterday & drank a wee bit more than i should have really, 7 pints but over a few hours. In bed for 9pm & up early for a 63 mile road ride round Cheshire, thought i'd be really rough TBH but strangely felt fine.
If i drank the same amount of alcohol in red wine rather than beer & lager i'd have had a horrible hangover this morning but i was fine.

I beg to differ Mrs B has PKU and aspartame in food and drink is a nightmare.

the claim that the two amino acids, phenylalanine and aspartic acid have neurotoxic effects. This is true in certain individuals and in high enough doses. The only subpopulation of individuals potentially susceptible to adverse effects from phenylalanine is homozygous phenylketonurics and in this case, food itself with much higher levels of phenylalanine from the protein in the diets contributes much higher toxicity for these unfortunate individuals. For those individual phenylketonurics that want to carefully control their intake levels of phenylalanine, they can do that by simply taking into consideration the amount of phenylalanine supplied by the aspartame product or, even more likely, simply refraining from use of these products. The USFDA requires that the aspartame product be labeled specially for phenylketonurics patients so that they will be aware of its presence in these products. As for the other amino acid in aspartame, the levels of aspartic acid ingested with aspartame use are many fold less than those levels responsible for causing adverse effects on the brain of animals and/or man. In fact, it is not clear that the experimentally derived data from animals is relevant to man. In any case, the levels of aspartic acid intake from aspartame are many fold below those needed to mediate neurologic effects.

Same, 5 pints Friday night (out with a mate who I have not seen for several years). In bed at 11.30pm and on the road at 7.30am for a 50 mile ride (the latter half of which was into a howling headwind).

Felt surprisingly good.

It's lunchtime drinking I can't do anymore... And my limit is a lot less than it used to be. I sneak in tonic water in the Middle of long sessions to not overdo it too hard, I don't drink filthy cheap stuff but I never did really

but I'm past 35 and still think I'm mid 20s like a dhead that I am

I love a Sunday afternoon tipple more than any other. Virtually stopped drinking on a Friday to prolong life hopefully and it genuinely makes the weekend last longer. This Friday went to a mates for dinner, had a couple of cobras with a curry he had cooked for us all. Then up fresh Saturday for a 9am ride.

Gave up the alcohol for lent and haven't really missed it - and I thought I'd really struggle. We went away this weekend and had a few drinks, as the weekend had been arranged before we decided to give up for Lent, and it's been nice to have a few drinks, but I'm as happy to get back on the wagon now the weekend's over.

I'm not entirely sure this is age related but having no lunch or dinner then drinking 3 pints of Erdinger and 2 pints of Leffe on a Friday night will destroy you.

It's just easier to not drink.

I turned 40 a couple of weeks ago and celebrated by opening a couple of bottles of red over the last few weeks. I just can't drink the stuff any more. Awful hangovers, terrible night's sleep, dehydration. I felt appalling every time I had a couple of glasses. Even beer makes me feel rough.
Not drinking is good. I like the effects of not drinking.

Not sure if it's age but I now get really bad acid reflux with whisky which is proper rubbish.

Re hangovers - I seem less capable of getting on and ignoring them and they last longer.

Re Hangovers- are you drinking enough water before you drink alcohol? Like regular consumption?

As I've said if I drink white or a poor/average quality red- hangover guaranteed even after 1 glass. If I drink high quality stuff I'm fine.

IMO you get hangovers if you are drinking pap or your body doesn't get on with a specific tipple. I LOVE Jim Beam/JD- but boy I suffer in the morning. Whereas Mount Gay/Appleton - I can bang em away to the cows come home.

Isn't that basically like saying that she is allergic to aspartame? No-one claims that peanuts are evil because some people are allergic to them.

I've cut down massively in the last four months and I feel so much better. The black recycling bin looks so different after two weeks!

Really look forward to a couple of real ales and a few more on the odd occasion.

I've had the past week off (and the rest of this week) so my alcohol consumption has gone up a bit and had a few nights out til 7-8am. I don't think I can deal with the hangovers much more, just completely wasted the day after in bed/walking around the house not being able to say anything but "oh god". I'm only 25 as well ffs. I'm having a month off it after this weekend.

I only put my tons/glass recycling once a month these days. Massive lightweight.

If I smoke I more often than not wake up with half a j by the back door.

Its been my curse, that I can count the number of hangovers I've had in my life, possibly on one hand and its not been for the lack of trying.

OP doesn't appear to mention their age.

Mid 40s now and I'm getting bore with drinking.
I'm more interested at the moment in finding a disc compatible frame, Ali or carbon, which doesn't have an integrated HS.
