Privateering- Mark Knopfler. A real surprise 'cos a lot of Dire Straits stuff used to bore me, but this is an absolute peach of an album, which bears repeated listening with a glass of your favourite tipple to hand. Highly recommended.

Tame Impala - Lonerism
Yes, yes, yes, if I'm really honest I loved the first album so much it took me a few listens to get into this, but my god it's really a grower, the silly references to John Lennon on YouTube are silly but sometimes justified, vocal range is similiar and he's using analogue mics with I assume analogue reverbs, it's a default Lennon sound.

I also love this, there live set at T in the park was amazing:

Album of the year

Alt-J by miles for me .
I though it was well deserved mercury winner .

First Aid Kit a close second (I saw them in Glesga on Sat night, excellent)

So much good stuff out there just now ,it's hard to choose (for my taste anyway) ๐Ÿ™‚

@ grievoustim, great list some I don't know so will enjoy doing a bit of discovery. Have you seen the grimes video for genesis, not sure if it's genius or mis-guided chav proto rave nonsense, I enjoyed it anyway.

Some have been mentioned above but they warrant a mention again,

First Aid Kit - The Lions Roar
Ben Howard - The Burgh Island EP
Of Monsters and Men - My Head Is An Animal
Frightened Rabbit - State Hospital EP
We Are Augustines - Rise Ye Sunken Ships
Tunng - This is Tunng.....Live From The BBC

And a special mention has to go to friends who released brilliant albums of traditional scottish folk music this year :
The Paul McKenna Band, brilliant album that saw the boys take to the USA and Canada for their first tour across the pond to genuine acclaim.

Can only possibly be Purity Ring for me, just amazing, especially after seeing them live this week.

Runners up include Alt-J, Four Tet and Django Django

Another here for Battle Born. Loved seeing them at Birmingham and Flowers definitely has a very good voice which sadly let him down at another gig. Definitely gives it his all on stage and can't wait see them at Wembley next year.
