[#13536281]

I’ve just become aware that these things exist.

We are looking to move next year and make our new home as energy self sufficient as possible so will be running  solar and battery.

Have you had one installed? Is there much to go wrong with them? Does it work? What did it cost?

We will be buying 4 beds 1500 to 1800 sq ft

Am looking at the same,  someone said that daikin are bringing out a combined air to air and air to water one later this year. So heating/cooling and hot water in one unit.

Heating and cooling in one unit is a heat pump if you want it to do hot water.

if no hot water requirements it is air con.

Hi,

Just on a side note with this, and it may or may not be of assistance.  But, if you have a Halifax mortgage or have recently moved to Halifax from another lender, or even renewed your rate with Halifax, they are offering a cash back for people who make their properties more energy efficient, e.g. Heatpump installed £2,000, Solar £1,000, other 'green' home improvements £500.

It sounds too good to be true but there is absolutely no catch.  I am a mortgage broker of 20 + yrs and have contacted all clients who have a Halifax mortgage to make them aware, so far in the last 2 weeks, 3 clients have been paid out.  You upload the invoice to a particular Halifax 'green' portal and they review and send you the money within 5 days.  You do not pay it back, it is not a loan it is just, as they say, cash back.

The reason.. lenders are under pressure from the Government to make homes more energy efficient so it is their way of trying to encourage.  Nationwide are offering 0%, YES, 0% borrowing to existing clients, again for 'green' improvments.

Stu

PS it is not a shout for business (although always happy to chat mortgages and bikes until the cows come home), it is something that you have to do directly with Halifax, although more than happy to guide you through it.  I have a flyer but it exceeds the MB, so if you DM me, ill send you the details.  You wont be added to a mailing list, Ill just simply send you the info.

Thankfully we are mortgage free but we save with Nationwide so that's great news.
Thanks

As a person with a Nationwide mortage this is interesting to know. Thanks.

As a brief overview...

£5k - £20K

0% fixed for 2 or 5 yrs

no fees

Funds must be used for energy efficient home improvements.  The small print...

  • The term of the Green Additional Borrowing cannot be longer than the terms of your existing mortgage.
  • The improvements you want to fund cannot make the property uninhabitable during installation.
  • The borrowing can't be used retrospectively to re-finance or reimburse works that have already been completed on the property.
  • The product can't be used for structural updates.

This is a good series on all things heat pumps. The guys in the video have air to air for heating and cooling, plus an air to water for hot water:

The bonus benefits of whole home AC
