I was reading a load of posts about aga's a while back.

Now I've been in my new house with aga for a while now and I love it, whoever was asking get one !!

Cooks well, keeps the house warm, does amazing roasts, great slow cooked stuff boils water fast (unfortunately drinks like a range rover)

Is it not meant to heat the house too?

I HATE them.

They take forever for warm up, are crap for heating anything on a stove top, and smell.

I would never have one again.

We have one that is dual burner so does the heating and the cooking - and I still hate it.

Get a proper boiler and a proper cooker. Job done!

They take forever for warm up,

your not supposed to turn them off like a normal oven

are crap for heating anything on a stove top,

fries boils makes great rice simmers nicely does a full english with perfect scrambled eggs

and smell.

not quite napalm in the morning but good enough

hate to use the phrase a bad workman but......

Er, if you have a dual burner you ARE supposed to turn them off......

I hate the thought of getting up, fancying a boiled egg, and needing an hour to warm the sodding Aga up to cook it.

They do cook things nicely - roasts are great. But they are a pain the in the arse.

A decent fan electric oven, coupled with a gas hob is better. People who support agas are doing it for the sake of it - sorry

"Ford Model Ts are the best cars" - syndrome.....

I HATE my aga.

We stayed in a B&B once in Peebles, where the owners were warming fresh lambs by the aga to kick start them!

Have just been given notice to leave my rented house which am gutted about, except for not having to cook on that god awful aga ever again, entirely useless for cooking anything in a wok, cost a fortune to run (its gas fired), cant fine tune the heat at all, if you have it on for more than an hour the kitchen becomes unbearably hot, and so on.....

The four hours waiting till it stews, brews, cakes, warms, dries, and a carbon footprint that would make a hummer owner choke.
That and the constant cleaning and removal and disposal of ash, but apart from that, they're ace 🙂

When I'm rich enough I'm definately getting one. Parent have one and they look amazing.

Only bad point is the hot plate on top isn't hot enough all the time (ie when turned down in summer).
