Might be looking to replace my standard manufacturer head unit with something else.

Do any manufacturers (except Becker) make headunits which are simple and not fussy or overly lit etc?

I've got a Kenwood DAB unit which isn't too gaudy. It has one rotary volume control, the buttons are illuminated white, with white highlighting, like around the USB port. It has no stupid moving graphics, other than the display, which shows the track playing on the radio, or MP3 device, and it plays CD's too.
This is the one I've got fitted:

Highly recommended. The stick-on screen antenna works remarkably well, too in most places I drive.

I always thought Blaupunkt were very plain.
After that, maybe Clarion or Sony.

Kenwood are very variable- I've got a different model in the same chassis as CountZero links and it looks like blackpool illuminations.

Quite a few have adjustable light levels though.

Ive got one of these. I like the old fashioned look of the twin dials. There's minimal daft lights and they are still well sought after for the quality burr brown DACs by the car audiophiles. Shame it wont fit in my latest car ๐Ÿ™

Anything by Becker, especially the Grand Prix range.

Agh, seems they've decided to stop production of car stereos now. Well worth seeking out if someone's still got stock of though; I had one in my BMW and it was bleeding ace.

Damn that pioneer would have been perfect if it had an aux in.

Nakamichi if they still make them or Rockford Fosgate used to make some quite low key head units.

Good news, it does have audio in capability. You just need an ip bus conector and you can connect what you like via two phono plugs. I have said cable and used it to listen to my iPod.

Im open to offers. Email me on Adam_Marsland at hotmail dot com for pics and details if you wish. It's in impeccable condition with original box and all accessories.
