Didn't realise my sub had expired and started to get adverts on the forum.

I'm surprised there's an advert for off road electric motorbikes which are advertised as 'off road e-bikes'.

The only difference between e-bikes and off-road motorcycles is the power.

Is the main difference not that you don’t have to pedal with a motorbike, and a motor bike has a throttle. Or am I missing something? There’s quite a few electric trail bikes where I live, and the don’t look anything like e-bikes. They look exactly like motorbikes.

The problem is like "bike" e-bike can be used for motorbikes, mopeds or bicycles.

The equivalent to a normal bicycle is the catchily named "Electric Pedal Assist Cycles" with the key restrictions being you have to peddle and the motor cuts out at 15.5mph.

Well John, things have changed a bit recently. It's quite clever really, some e bikes have incorporated the throttle into crank sensors and made the pedalling side of things a bit of a gimmick. They've then mirrored the look of a mountain bike...the crafty shenanigans doesn't stop there, they managed to get access to bridleways and trail centres by tweaking the output. I don't think it will catch on but there's always the 'more power = more fun brigade' out there so who knows, time will tell.
