Hi I was just wondering if anyone of you have ambiopia? I was just reading articles from convincing sources that their some treatments now can improve the condition in adults?

By chance has anyone tried some of the new tried any of the new technology?
Electronic glasses? Gaming VR headset's? Or proffesional ambiopia course's?

Or is it all a load of bollics 😁

Yes, I have it in my left eye. It runs in my family on my mother's side but only in the men. It got diagnosed when I was around 5 or 6 years old and I remember having a pair of glasses with a patch over that eye but I refused to wear them because of being bullied at school.

To be honest I only realise that I have the condition when I read an article or post about it and then think "ah, my vision is wonky in one eye". I've never actively sought out adult treatment because I had heard that it is a brain disorder that can't be treated later in life so I'd be interested in any articles you've found.

My brother has it, Amblyopia, he wore a patch as a kid. Doesn’t seem to bother him he forgot all about until he went an eye test in his 30s.

I "suffer" with it in my right eye. I had three surgeries as a youngster along with eye patches and glasses to try and correct it, which didn't work.

As above, it's not really something I'm conscious of anymore. The only time i think about it is during the eye chart part of my offshore medical when I can't read the top letter with my right eye 😉

I have it with bad eyesight and at 26 my eye sight is only going to get worse so I'm hopeful.

Lots of new stuff for it and coursers but untill I hear of actual people benefiting from it I won't try.

Apparently it's proven that it can be improved according to various studies but mainstream opticians and health services will simply not acknowledge it yet.

They are unsure how much it can be improved tho. Will need to see for now I'm definitely keeping hold of my money

Like you, I got it as a kid, never knew anything was wrong untill eye checkups in later years. Now unfortunately it may have deep effect's later in life considering how my eye sight has deteriated quite rapidly in the last ten years.

Will just nee dto keep an eye on it (see what I did there) 😁

Well i didn't know that was it's name until i clicked the link, but yes, i do. Left eye.

Day to day it bothers me 0%. But it's something i'm very much aware of.

Back when racing motorbikes it was a problem as i couldn't get an ACU licence as it can't be fixed with glasses, so i just got someone else to take my eye test for me 🙂

but I do wonder how it affects my track riding as you'd assume it makes say left handers more tricky as i can't actually see out of that eye.... but, i just live with it.

If there was a solution that was a very good chance of working, surgical or something else, i'd give it a try for sure.

Yep.

Interestingly I did buy an oculus rift VR headset for the pc, they had a 30 day returns and tbh I was expecting it wouldn’t work as I can’t see 3d films and drum roll....

It’s great and it works ,it seems to give enough mental stimulation that my brain starts using the other eye.

I haven’t looked into using it for treatment thou.

I don't have ambiopia but I do have double vision as a result of 4th nerve palsy (my left eye doesn't swivel properly). As a result when riding my bike over bouncy terrain it's a case of "which front wheel needs to miss which rock?". I had no idea this was abnormal until I was 60. Probably explain why I'm rubbish at all things that need hand/eye co-ordination and instead focus on sports that allow a little correction as you go along.
I got around the main issues by getting contact lenses that have a reading lens for my dodgy eye and a distance lens for my good eye, sort of relegating the dodgy one to a depth-perception only role.

me - left eye had a patch when I was about 6, always had glasses. School were obsessed with sports that involved a fast moving object and no glasses were allowed which was a joyous experience, but otherwise mine isn't so bad, doesn't stop me riding a bike or driving or anything like that. I could never see those magic eye pictures (hello 1991) and I think my lazy left eye is the reason.

If you get any evidence of it actually improving your bad eye like maybe at a next check up please let me know. I'd buy one tomorrow in that case.

I know theirs a selection of specialist software available for the occulas designed for ambiopia.

Had it since birth. I have a greater than +3 difference in refraction between my eyes. The poorest eye has never been fully corrected. I sit people on the right when reading screens, but otherwise I have little issues.

One risk factor of interest is that one is more likely to lose the sight in the good eye due to accident.

The only time I have close to binocular vision is with binoculars, where I can adjust the relative powers by focusing on the poor eye and winding out the correction on the good. Brain still struggles though.

On the negative side, I can never hold a commercial flying license. On the plus, shooting is a breeze with both eyes open.
