Doing a tour along the Kennet and Avon canal and need to stop in Newbury or close by and I am struggling to find somewhere half decent that isn't going to cost a fortune. Obviously need secure bike storage.

Any ideas???

Found this place online but no reviews anywhere which is a bit weird (but not necessarily bad!) http://www.stockcrosspostoffice.co.uk/index.html

Travelodge in the town centre. Keep bike in room.

Well if you get stuck we have a sofa bed. You might have to fight the dog for it though! We are in thatcham 5 mins from the canal.

Thanks very much AA but I think a dog means its a non-starter for us. Very kind offer though. Going to ring a couple of places now.

Oh I stay in the Regency most weeks - currently working at Stryker. Doing some lovely road rides, lots of quiet lanes around.

The travelodge in the centre of town should be cheap a secure plus its <5 mins from pubs and restauraunts. Also in the centre is the chequers hotel, queens hotel and a few pubs such as the Dolphin have rooms but I'm not sure what they're like. Further out is a big Hilton (south) and Donnignton Valley (north) but these will cost more probably. Between Newbury and Thatcham is Newbury Manor Hotel.

The link you gave looks ok. There are a couple of pubs nearby that do food.

Another option maybe:

I've stayed a few times, some rooms better than others but a nice place with friendly owners/staff and good value - not much about nearby though I think.

How about The Furze Bush Think the rooms have recently been refurbed & foods good too. Not sure about bike storage but I live just around the corner & you're more than welcome to store them in the 'man cave'

You got The Swan in Thatcham, next to the canal. They have some small bedrooms, you walk into and can probably take the bikes in. Berkshire arms, up the A4 by a mile. I can home your bikes overnight if any issues, as only 1/2mile from the swan or Berkshire arms. You can eat at both and chill out.

I did buy a "cheap" road bike when I moved down but it's not got much use. Happy to go for a spin one night if you don't mind me tagging along?!

Hare & Hounds is decent, used by some of our staff from other sites.

Chequers is like Fawlty Towers, but liked by our freign visitors for some reason ๐Ÿ™‚

Loads of eating in the town center.

I might turn up to a road ride one evening ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm happy to ride with anyone as I do easier and harder rides each week and anyone can fit into one of those. This was a pretty good loop the other night:
