It really is beyond crass and I'm really surprised the the number of y'all here that think it's fine.
Why is that?
Do you not have a lot going on in your life, igrf? (I don't right now, obviously)
Any other company, let's choose, for example, Innovia Films, a successful multinational company based in Wigton, Cumbria.
If they saw fit to put a statue of of their current CEO, paid for with their money, on their own premises, to recognise, in their own way, what that person had contributed to their current position..
...why do you think anyone would give a flying **** what you thought of it? And why do you think it's any of your business?
Football's a private enterprise.
Did you know that GSK's HQ is built in the shape of a spoon? That's right, they're commemorating success. The bastards.

Clearly not, and I must immediately consider raising a statue to myself for 30 yrs of doing the job I paid myself to do.
'I' 'quite' 'like' 'the' 'idea' 'of' 'putting' 'odd' 'emphasis' 'on' 'words' 'to' 'make' 'a' 'point''.'
First he's still alive, so it's toady brown nosing of the highest order, being chavs for the most part 'they' wouldn't clock the normal precedent of at least waiting for the subject to pass this mortal coil
No he's not - he's been dead for some years, the current utd manager is a robot using bacon for skin.

Pity you're not doing it very well....

Nuts to that. I'd have a statue of Jackie Milburn in my living room (if I was allowed).
Have you ever seen the statue of William Wallace at the Wallace monument in Stirling? It's looks more like a certain alcoholic, racist, bible bashing Aussie.
If you mean it looks like Mel Gibson,
that's because it is Mel Gibson.
It's a statue of Mel Gibson playing William Wallace in Braveheart.
(The clue is on the Shield 😉 )
And the statue was removed 4 years ago.......
he's got cankles

Looks more like legwarmers. I imagine them in various fluorescent colours.
footloose
there's a statue of a bear eating a coat on the end of my street...
Pics please
For all the people on here that don't like "wendy ball" and "chav ball" they do seem to comment on it a great deal.
Probably unaware of the fact that without a doubt and as much a it galls me to say he probably is the greatest football manager to have ever lived. God that hurts! The statue is also outside the ground.
Or maybe they are very aware and just think its clever.
The OP doesn't 'do' soccer and has never comprehended the desire of others to stand and shout at a bunch of overpaid girlie boys kicking a ball around and the fact they've created what is clearly not the first craven image to one of their 'Gods' he finds frankly astounding. There are times when one has to question ones membership of the same species.
If you don't understand it don't try to comprehend it or present yourself as in anyway knowledgeable on the subject because it actually makes you look rather intolerant and small minded.
Inscription at the bottom of the Stan Cullis statue reads "you only have one life, and I gave mine to Wolves"
I wish Steve Morgan would go and read it to Jeff Moxley
OP. while you will never understand the significance of this tribute, there are many millions who will, I being one:
Doesn't matter if you like Fergie or not, he's bloody good at his job. If Glazer wants to put up a statue let him, if he pays for it he can have a parade too.
guessing the OP had nothing to play with except his big sisters barbies as a kid?
big jocks statue was long overdue at celtic and has bugger all to do with the monetization of the game.
guessing he'll not appreciate statues like this either?
or the likes of velodromes getting named after chris hoy..
the statues are about celebrating sporting excellence, nothing more. Not like we're gonny erect tony mowbraw a statue now is it?
is it my imagination or are all of these footy statues a bit shit ?
none of them seem to look like the actual person
none of them seem to look like the actual person
michael jackson's was pretty much a copy of him
micheal jackson's looked more like micheal jackson than he did.
yeah, what a twisted guy-- that nose of his was incredible the way it 'evolved' !
The Southampton geezer above is Ted Bates, who was a player, manager and president over a 66 year period til his death in 2003. Most of this period was the overblown game it is now and his service to the club is well deserving of a statue. Fortunately that embarrassing one was replaced in 2008 with one that doesn't look like a hobbit.
Statues are odd in some ways-- depends on whether they are imposed or genuine -- there is a lot more 'room' for creative objects to be placed !

I believe there's a statue of Thatcher in the member's lobby at Westminster, [as well as others] been there some time and the wicked witch of the West even unveiled it herself IIRC
she is all but dead !
igrf - Another one to add to the 'avoid in real life' list.
I just saw an item on this.

And started to wonder what the haterz are putting back into the community.
And started to wonder what the haterz are putting back into the community.
most clubs do lots of communiity work, after all thats where their support comes from, but the knockers only see the big stars and some tabloid behaviour from a few,the vast majority of clubs and footballers do unsung work in their locale.Even the team i support which is semi-pro-- plenty of community involvment from players etc-- tis all good !
The snobbery on here from some posters when talking about football is ridiculous.
A statue of someone who inspired many many people, who millions look up to? Why not.
You know what, it took 60 yrs to get a statue to bomber command, and there are still loads of deserving wartime participants with no monument to their sacrifice, yet some bod, obnoxious for the most part, paid God knows what gets his memory perpetuated, for what? What do you need a statue to him for, you can still see him most saturdays or whenever it is the wendyboys get their overpaid arses down to the ground for a bit of a kick about?
igrf-- you been evicted from under the bridge ?
@irgf
Is it all footballers you hate or just professionals? Cos I play football every week. Does that make me a chav or a 'wendyboy'?
I couldn't care less about football but calling it chavball/ wendyball/ etc doesn't make you sound edgy and alternative, it just makes you sound like a ****t
igrf, as a director of a company that sells cycling equipment, do you think it's a good idea to wind up potential customers? You appear to be saying that football fans are a bit below you, that somehow you are better. Interesting strategy, risky, but interesting.

Do you understand the difference between Private Companies, and Government Spending ?
WTF has what Manchester United decide to spend their money on got to do with Bomber Command ?
You might as well moan at someone on here for spending £3k on a bike, and make out that's why the NHS doesn't have enough money for as many MRI machines as they might want.
That's as much sense as your argument makes.

It's going to put off more customers than a factory in Yorkshire having a few saucy calendars in the workshop that's for sure.
I'd have thought that someone of the OPs extended age, would be delighted to see a monument to such an inspirational older member of society. It should spur him on to get up tomorrow, and have another go at selling overpriced surf handbags.

I get the feeling I've missed something. 🙁
You and I clearly were educated in a different era. You're wrong.
Do expand...
Thanks.
OP fail - pure and simple.
