If you are a victim of crime, say gbh or something, and your attacker is convicted, can you then go on and sue for damages?

Just a thought!

You can bring a civil case...probably only worth doing it if the perp has the means to pay.

Why? What happened? Dish!

Have a look at criminal injuries compensation, especially if youre a student and been thrown off a train by a fat thug.

Yes, and liability is pretty much a dead cert, but you have to prove actual damage. The average kind of damage should be addressed by a compensation order in the criminal proceedings. Very much depends on the circumstances but if no compensation order was made you are probably not entitled to anything, even if the perp can pay

An old mate went to a party, got hit by a stella'ed up pissshead, ended up in hospital for a few days and had some of his features returned to the normal state, caught on cctv, the perp turns out to have 'a history of things like this' and come from good stock.

I thought he might be able to claim against, he said no, we discussed it, I said 'I'll sak STW'

we got pissed, I asked a week or so later....

Thanks! I was right!

The first rule of law regarding suing is not to sue someone who has no money.

Or sue the party organiser or the owner of the premises for health & safety ...
