A non minty toothpaste?

I’m trying to possibly source a non minty toothpaste, preferably for sensitive teeth. My wife has started getting catarrh in the back of her throat after using our regular mint flavoured toothpaste and has read that the mint part might be what’s causing it.

There are non mint toothpastes out there but I wondered if anyone on here has any  experience of them and could recommend one.

There’s strawberry flavoured kids stuff (but it has lower fluoride content).

Cat toothpaste I believe has a yummy meaty flavour.

Kingfisher make a rather good fennel toothpaste.

There's a few cinnamon toothpastes about for adults. It's popular in the US but Holland and Barratt (among others) seem to do European equivalents.

Make sure you get a good brand though, with some of the cheaper ones the whiskers get stuck in my teeth.

Read where?

Minty things (menthol etc) typically break down phlegm rather than cause it.  Toothpaste allergies aren't unheard of but they're very rare and you'd see other symptoms.

I appreciate that in STW style this doesn't answer the question as asked, but I'm sceptical that answering it will solve her issue.  Of course, it can't hurt to try.

thanks for that. I’ll check out H&B.

I’d seen a weird, Italian or perhaps Dutch brand of toothpaste in cinnamon and other weird flavors in a store in Manchester’s northern quarter. But if I remember correctly about £9/tube.

Like you say, there are non-minty Crest flavors in the USA. Cinnamon was my favorite of those. I’d bring a few tubes back with me when I travelled there back in the day.

Hismile are a brand that do loads of different toothpastes. I think they're common enough to be in supermarkets/superdrug/b&m type places.

I think a lot of the whitening ones taste a bit fishy. Others don't seem to agree though and think I'm wierd....

Not a paste, but Lush do Toothpaste tabs that come in all sorts of lovely flavours.

I originally got them for camping but like them so much I use them at home too.

I have the "Refresher" flavour, tastes sorta like the sweets of the same name

The wife uses coconut flavoured toothpaste, I think she gets it from Superdrug.

I love the cheap one from Aldi as it tastes of fennel/liquorice/aniseed.

Also maybe research SLS-free toothpastes.  Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is the foaming agent used in almost all the common toothpastes and it has indications for irritation.

My favourite toothpaste is Superdrug’s Charcoal, it’s actually black, but foams up white, and isn’t particularly minty, there’s just something about the taste I really like, so might be worth trying.

I got drunk at a conference once and stumbled back to my hotel and brushed my teeth with this by mistake. Will make mint seem much less bad.

HighSmile do non-minty. They do quite a lot of flavours. I'm not sure if it's got any anti-sensitivity to it though.

I'm using Sensodyne repair and protect, it's not immensely minty.

Another vote for euthymol toothpaste. Unfortunatley MrsWCA hates it so much she refuses to let me use it.

I did similar in a youth hostel once - nicked a squirt of a fellow hosteller's toothpaste to see what Chinese (?) toothpaste tasted like. Turns out they sell shampoo in tubes in China.

I was in Superdrug earlier and spotted this. Think they had other flavours also..

One morning, my mum was (uncharacteristically) running late for work.  Flying round the house getting dressed, brushing teeth, doing makeup etc.  Downstairs in the kitchen, doing her hair.  Reaches in the cupboard for hairspray.

pssshhhhhssshhhhh....

*sniffs*

*looks*

Pledge.

How was it?

I also tried to wash my hair with toothpaste once too. I was travelling and bought a bathroom kit that had toothpaste and shampoo in squeeze bottles. Wasn't really thinking and reached out of the shower blind and picked up the wrong squeeze bottle by mistake. Worked about as well as you would expect.

This thread reminded me I had this in my bathroom cabinet. Was horrible (sell by date is 2022) so only used it once 😆

Saw that in superdrug once. Thought someone's having a right laugh finding out they can sell tiny tubes of toothpaste to idiots for £12!
