I have no idea what a “crit” is.. some kind of race?
Crit - short for Circuit.
Traditionally "crit" was used for town centre races, whereas "circuit" usually means a fixed venue built specifically for cycle racing.
Usually about 1-2km long with some tight corners, races on them are about 30-60 minutes duration.
You lot do realise this isn’t for STWers and their roadie dreams.
I think a club level race around that would be quite good fun. I've raced hundreds of circuit events plus a few town centre crits. 🙂
Let me know the day they have a race organised on that track aimed at young people, families, disabled people and women, to enable them to cycle more safely and I'll come up and watch 😛

Short for Criterium. It happens on a circuit, of course.
Just out of curiosity, can you get a mixed tarmac/off road course like rallycross or does that fall under cx?
certainly seen mixed surface CX

I don't quite understand. Is it that you think none of those people might quite like cycling, or that what they might use that facility for doesn't match your narrow views?
A Criterium was the quickest way to wreck your bike. Great for spectators. Very intense racing for about an hour - bit easier having an out of town circuit as it use to involve closing off town centres - think 'Tour Series' currently.
These circuits are a bit safer for racing as you haven't road furniture to worry about.

Our club hosted a race meet at the Harvey Haddon track over Easter which had mens, womens, kids and paracycling races. And I know at least one the riders is openly gay.
Hopefully that will either convince you it's worthwhile or you can get back under the bridge.
I think he's more implying that track will never be raced on despite not knowing what kind of race a crit is. Bridge lurker indeed.
What is it’s purpose ?
People who don't know the diffence between it's and its are made to ride around it until they learn.
One hope for humanity moment that happened at the York Sport circuit.
The closed road circuit gets used for a variety of stuff. We have it Saturdays, Mondays, Thursdays and other times we can dream up something interesting to do on it.
One Saturday as we came off, a group of hand cyclists, HPV cyclists and tricyclists were coming on.
Cue a bunch of 15 year olds, who had just spent an hour or so cruising in a tight 25mph group falling over themselves to ask the folk coming on about their bikes/HZVs, what kind of speeds they get up to, what they are like to corner, and corner round the hairpin. Not one question about what these guys couldn’t do, what their disability might be, only about what they did do. Just a bunch of kids who could only see other cyclists with different and interesting bikes, and a bunch of folk on those interesting bikes who were very happy to answer.
That moment, and that circuit, seemed to bring people together in a very positive way.
I hope the Hartlepool circuit does the same.
I like that..
Yeah..Wynn Masters ain't gonna post a sick edit there... BT.. it would be a fantastic place to take my 7 year old and her mates, and let tehm razz around the track without ****ts in cars frishtening them.
I suppose they could paint road markings on it and use it for Bikeability training.
This would be fab - really teach kids how to use junctions etc.
DrP

Where did I say it's not worthwhile? I know it's hard work, but try comprehending what you read before posting eh.

Or put some traffic lights up and teach adults how to use traffic lights. 🙂
This is the one in Fife:

I honestly thought you'd put a picture of knockhill up at first glance 😂
I think it looks great. I have to travel to teach the kids to ride bikes and would love something like this locally instead.
