Started out with Doris the Honda Civic 1.4. Utterly bombproof in terms of mechanics, but the Rover body killed it at 14 years old. A car with no personality that we had loads of adventures in, and treated awfully, and in doing so gave it a personality.
Then had a truly revolting Vauxhall Combo 1.7 CDTi. The only good things about it were that it was surpisingly fast and I genuinely couldn't have cared less about sitting in it with muddy gear. Otherwise, rotten. And the brakes failed on me twice. Blew up on Strines Moor never to move again. I don't think the van lifestyle suited me- it was noisy, uncomfortable, you couldn't take mates anywhere. A car with a rack suits me better.
We got a Skoda Citigo whilst we still had the van for my wife to learn to drive in then get to work with. Really wonderful little car but we had to get rid after a year after she decided to go back to Uni.
When the van blew up I got a Fabia, which is great. As big a car as I can reasonably insure without being dull as dishwater, it will take 3 people and bikes and kit for a weekend away comfortably and it has chavvy suspension and wheels so drives nicely too.
We've just moved further from my wife's work and so I have bought this now for us to share. It's called Roger. It's an enormous amount of fun- bought it for buttons, have spent about 500 quid on getting it mechanically tip top in 6 months but we have still paid less than we should have. Drives wonderfully, is not fast but feels it and going anywhere in it feels like an occasion.
As someone else mentioned, I am also staggered by the number of cars folk have been through here. I've been driving for 20years now, and have owned cars for about 15 years of those. I'm on no.3!
I've been very lucky, this is all of mine covering 18 years, none missed out.
Loved this too because it didn't even need locking (missing front squirrel bar here)

cars are not the actual ones but the colours are
Ideal present for nostalgic car owners.
DISCLAIMER I have no connection with the company other than owning a couple of their plates and a tea-towel featuring their Tinsley Viaduct + Cooling Towers design. I haven't owned enough cars yet myself to warrant one of these (Punto, Golf TDI, Passat, A4 Avant, Mazda 6, VW California)
http://www.peoplewillalwaysneedplates.co.uk/products-all-the-cars
Much more interesting than I expected. I might have been accidentally ignoring some the Octavias and Avants, but who'd have guessed so many Mk2 Sciroccos - and a pair or Miafiroris.
Mine (including main driver company cars only)
1981 VW Polo
1973 GT Beetle
1990 Rover 416GSi (had leccy windows, leccy sunroof and wooden bits - maybe the only one ever owned by a 21yr old)
1996 Fiat Bravo HLX (first brand new car)
1996 Renault Clio RSI
1998 Ford Puma 1.7 (first new car bought myself, and still the best fun/cost balance of anything I've had)
1995 Saab 900xe (baby or puma, baby or puma??)
1998 Audi A4 tdise
2004 Mini Cooper S, moded (discovered I wasn't as good a driver as I thought; kept spare pants in car)
1999 Mercedes A160
2009 Toyota Prius
2012 Mercedes B200
Much less excited about cars these days than I used to be (not that you can tell from the list).

Sorry, I've never bothered to figure out picture posting, but my list is:
Mini - silver, Sprite alloys, lots of rust. Loved that car.
Beetle convertible. Not a proper Karmann, not even a Wizard, dunno who chopped the roof off, welded some random girders into it and fitted stupidly big wheels, but I was young and it was fun, so who cares.
Audi Coupe - looked like the classic quattro if you squinted a bit, but was the bottom of the range model (1.8 I think, might or might not have had fuel injection). Still drove brilliantly and plenty fast, until I killed the engine.
Black Capri 2.0S It had been raining the first time I drove it. I had to negotiate a roundabout. Had a bit of a surprise there..
Yellow Cavalier 1.8GLS. Ugly, rusty, comfy and surprisingly quick. Mainly bought due to being skint, needing to move house in a bit of a hurry and it having some road tax and only being on sale for £350. Locks didn't work, brakes failed unexpectedly, got stolen and the insurance paid out £800 so quite happy really.
Nissan President 4.4 V8. This is the one that makes me wish I knew how to post pictures on here, rare and beautiful (eye of the beholder and all that). Huge, brown, Japanese barge with pseudo yank styling and electric everything - the drivers' door panel was like something from an airliner as the windows and the quarterlights were electric all round! (so 8 window switches) as well as electric aerials and what not. Probably not the most practical vehicle to tour the length and breadth of New Zealand in. Might have been a little stoned when buying it. God, I miss that car!
Astra estate. Bit of a comedown after the Nissan on returning to the UK, practical when doing a house up.
Astra hatchback, bottom of the range yellow three door. Bought when the estate got nicked. Didn't own it for long.
Passat estate. What can I say? It was a Passat estate. Perfect in every way and utterly dull. Probably should have kept it instead of buying an..
Alfa 156. Red paint, black leather, Veloce ("phone dial") alloys, looked the part, shame it was put together by small children and broke so often. Lovely to drive though (when it was working)
Jeep Cherokee 4.0 SE, running on LPG but still cost a fortune, and needing frequent and expensive repair.
Mondeo estate. The dullest, least engaging car I've ever owned, and the one I've kept the longest (by an enormous margin). I really can't fault it, although I do hate it. LX version.
And a Winnebago LeSharo motorhome, the main function of which is to sit on my driveway slowly rusting. Spent a fortune on it over the last few years and it's still a basket case. If anyone wants one, I'm open to offers.
1996 1.4 Renault Clio - liked
2001 Citroen Xsara - disliked
2000 1.4 Seat Ibiza - ambivalent about
1999 2.0 Subaru Forrester - liked
1996 1.4 Renault Clio (different to the first one) - liked
2006 BMW 130i - like
First car was PKD 572L, a mk1 Ford Escort 1.3in yellow. Cost £300 in 1987 and would be worth a fortune now.
Fastest car was my Subaru Impreza BU 52 ZTV, fast as but managed about 17-21mpg
My current Audi A3 is brilliant.
My main daily driver car list:
86 Ford Escort 1.4 GL
89 VW Golf mk2 1.6 GL
90 VW Golf mk2 1.8 GTI 8v
92 VW Golf mk3 2.0 GTI 8v
86 Audi GT Coupe 2.2
89 VW Golf mk2 1.8 GTI 16v
88 VW Golf mk1 1.8 GTI convertable
91 VW Golf mk2 1.8 GTI 16v (beautiful example - now regret selling)
94 VW Corrado 2.9 VR6 (favourite car & longest I've kept one - 4yrs!)
07 VW Golf mk5 2.0 TDI Estate
96 VW Golf mk3 2.0 GTI Anniversary 16v
03 VW Golf mk4 1.9 GT TDI 130 (now 180 - the boring commuter car)
Also have/had:
91 VW Golf mk2 1.6 Driver
92 VW Corrado 2.0 16v
87 VW Golf mk2 1.8 GTI 8v Jubilee
90 VW Golf mk2 1.8 GTI 8v
88 Audi 100 2.2 Avant
10 SEAT Ibiza 1.6 TDI Sport
07 Audi A4 Avant 2.0T S Line (Current petrol turbo family car)
As someone else mentioned, I am also staggered by the number of cars folk have been through here. I've been driving for 20years now, and have owned cars for about 15 years of those. I'm on no.3!
I used to be a caraholic, spent far too much money on them. It was sort of my hobby, I have become a serial bike buyer now instead, which is (a bit) cheaper.
However I am getting better now, kept the last for four years and with the intention of keeping the current one at least as long.
Vauhall Chevette 1.3L. Bought for £70, sold for £50 as scrap.
Mk1 Nissan Micra 1.0. Cheap, moved, broke.
Mitsubishi Colt GLXi warm hatch. 115BHP! 0-60 in just under 10 seconds!
Fiat Coupe 16v Turbo. Quickish, nice interior, hated the handling. Just felt heavy.
Honda Integra Type-R (DC2). Bought new, dream car at the time. Loved it, should have kept it.
Lotus Elan (1990s one). Scratching a 2-seater itch, owned at the same time as the Integra.
Subaru Impreza WRX (blob-eye) 5-door. Almost fast, reliable, handled well, loved the snow, practical. Cheap interior.
Audi RS4 (B7). OMFG. Properly quick, 414BHP, 4.2V8. Woke the street up when I started it. Handled, steered, braked, accelerated, sounded awesome. Comfy. Was the avant so practical as well. Sold it as it was 7 years old and expensive things were breaking. £900 to replace a single DRS strut. "We recommend you do all 4 sir". No chance. Replace, sell.
Audi S4 (B8). Saloon, DSG gear box, only 330BHP, economical and quiet (compared to the RS). Very grown up. Bit dull but better than the RS 95% of the time.
Spitfire still got it stil in this condition 🙁

Not a trader, all bought for my use, or later on in life for family.
I've been told I was addicted to the process of buying and selling, probably agree.....
All over period of 18 years apart from the first6 on list.....
I've a real soft spot for those 155s, would love to transplant the engine and running gear out of my Fiat into one and make a right hand drive Q4.
That Integrale on the last page... best car in the thread IMO.

The 155 was a special car breathed on 2.5v6 coil overs strut braces and sticky tyres made for a recipe for a lost license. The noise was spectacular and the grip levels and handling made it very easy to go very fast.
That HPE is the prettiest on the list so far. Always wanted one of them.

I bought a Volvo once, as my second car. I still have it. I've been driving 22 years. I have a company 4x4 right enough, means the old car gets it easy. I'll buy another Volvo one day.
@moshimonster @parkesie - the 155 was a lot of fun and weirdly for an Alfa my one never broke. One of the cheapest and most fun cars I ever owned.
Main cars:
'84 Mini City - loved it but it blew it's engine so it sat in my parent's garage for 10 years before I sold it. Really wish I'd kept it now.
'89 Nova 1.4 Luxe - cheap to buy and fitted in with all the other Nova's at college!!
'93 Clio 1.1 Night & Day - horrible thing, only had it for 6 months.
'94 Escort 1.3L - had a stolen engine so I ended up suing the garage for my money back.
'84 Volvo 240 GL Estate - bought for £20 (with free Volvo 240 for spares!) to use while getting the Escort saga sorted. Brilliant festival car!!
'91 AX 1.0 Spree - a lot more fun than it deserved to be! Gave it to my sister to use at uni, proved impossible to kill!!
'96 Corsa 1.4 GLS - bought from my dad. Had a lot of fun tuning this up but kept it looking standard. Sold it on as the sills were no longer attached to the car.
'04 Ka - my first new car, absolutely loved it. Simple and fun, almost like a modern Mini.
'05 Fiesta 1.25 Style - hated this car with a vengeance!! Strangely I kept it for 8 years. The only car I've walked away from when getting rid of it and not given it a second thought or looked back at it.
'14 Skoda Fabia - proving to be just a great little car. Not fast or stylish but just gets on with the job.
Others:
'78 Rover SD1 V8 - went nuts on this, supercharged and overbored to 4.2 ltr. 400bhp with the right fuel in!!
Various Mini's (more than 8!) as donor cars for the main Mini. This was back when there were loads around for £50 as scrap.
'86 MR2 - bought as spares or repairs. Used it for a summer, great fun. Got nicked.
'93 MX5 - same as the MR2, broke it for parts.
'84 Audi 80 - drunken Ebay purchase for £52.12. Used it as a winter car for two years.
'87 Metro - donated it's engine to the main Mini.
'93 Kia Pride - cheap second car for my sister to use. Actually rather good!
'88 Rover 213 - inherited it from my nan, never drove it.
Renault 5 GT Turbo of indeterminate age - on Irish plates with no paperwork!! It's sat in a barn on a mate's farm, or it should be as that's where I left it.
Unfinished rallycross project.
Not bad for 16 years.

Clio 197 - really good all-rounder
Audi A3 2.0T quattro - in anticipation of child 1
Audi S3 - having children can be fun! Very capable, quick car - but didn't like the image
Volvo V60 D5 - company car; rapid, soothing and safe - but too big
Golf R32 - opted out of company cars; least expensive car in 10 years. Has the most "soul" of my cars bar the second of my Coupe 20V Turbos. Best-sounding factory car I know of... bwoooaaarrrgh!!
In order...

Quite uninspiring. I recently toyed with the idea of swapping my company Golf with a Fiesta ST that's kicking around at work, but wasn't sure if I'd tire of it quickly as most of my driving is on the motorway
1981 Honda XL125

1971 Austin Healey Sprite (given by ex-girlfriend when we split up)
1985 Ford Orion company car (dire)
1983 Fiat Uno 70 - actually not that bad but never went the same after being converted to unleaded
1986 Golf GTI Mk2 - the Bosch injection one - really nice car
1990 Golf GTI Mk2 - Digifant and noticeably not so quick but got it to 230k before it spilled its gearbox oil all over the work car park a week after I'd started
2001 Honda Accord 1.8 Sport - not that sporty and constantly went into limp mode going round the bend where the A30 west leaves the M5 at Exeter. Nice drive though
2001 Passat Estate 1.9PD. Got that to 235k before a neighbour drove into me in the snow
2003 BMW 525d Touring - really nice drive but had lots of irritating things go wrong - now at 200k.
Not many for 33 years of driving and never yet had a new one - even my company car was s/h 🙁
1998 got a 90 Vw polo. Great first car. WRitten off so bought
Fiat bravo. Rubbish got rid for:
Audi a2 company car and a

1996 Rover 414SLi - 2005 - not bad
1992 Rover Coupe 2.0L NASP - 2006 Loved it most out of all so far and since. Ended up with cream leather, MGF clocks, ZS hairpins, Scorpion exhaust and a T-series turbo engine transplant. Gutted when I had to sell on.
