Bought/watched Scarface last night. Brilliant.
Looking for Marathon Man (worth watching or best left as a memory?)
Any others?
Ps. Yes theres Serge Leoni etc but Im talking the ones you dont hear about anymore..
Charley Varrick.
The Taking of Pelham 123.
I did hear that they were remaking the Pelham one. Have to be good to beat Walter Matthau at his best.
70s?
Star Wars I guess is the one that really stands out
Poseidon Adventure
French Connection
Tora Tora Tora
Rollerball
Not a movie but a series.... The Sandbaggers
Not a film, but a series - The Red Hand Gang (You'd managed to forget it, hadn't you?)
Films? Well, apart from Kelly's Heroes and the dirty Dozen, what more does a chap really need?
Bought the French Connection (£3 HMV) as well! 🙂
Rollerball- is it still 'in print'? That was brilliant.
Jaws
The Spy Who Loved Me
high plains drifter
Westworld.
cfh, Kelly's Heroes is all you need really. Gold, tanks, a great theme tune, Telly Savalas and Donald Sutherland.
which reminds me - Catch 22 wasn't bad as a film- not as good as the book of course, but not bad.
Not a movie but a series.... The Sandbaggers
I'm still waiting to see what happen to that bloke who got shot in the neck!
Kelly's heroes - Woof woof.
Midnight express
Another one for the French connection.
Planet of the apes
Shaft

Stop hitting me with these negative waves.....
Eating some cheese, drinking some wine and, erm, catching some rays
And Clint, don't forget the Clint....!
rocky
one flew over the cuckoo's nest
the exorcist
taxi driver
and it's been said before, the film with the best chant ever on earth, Rollerball.
Jonathan! Jonathan! Jonathan!
Films: West world, Silent running, Dark Star, Assault on Precinct 13
Series: The Proffessionals, Sapphire and Steel.
Midnight express
Another vote for that wonderful film.
And how about Jacob's Ladder...
Ohh, and I once saw a film called Sexworld - based on Westworld but with, well, sex...
🙂
So far:
Rollerball
Slapshot
Westworld
Wow, they bring back memories.
Already own a few of the others above. Can I recommend Logans Run? I wanted to be a Sandman (yes as a kid you dont realise they are the bad guys).
slapshot, wow, forgot about that one. And darkstar. time to go shopping I think.
If were going for cheesy 70s porno how about Flesh Gordon I can never forget the Penisaurus and some of the character names Dale Hardon and Flexi Jerkoff
The Warriors
Star Wars
Rocky
For a modern day take on 70s sci films I can thoroughly recommend Moon. Very much a tribute to the slow burning sci fi films of the 70s like, Silent Running, 2001, Dark Star etc.
Great post Hora
Childhood boys films to me were:
Restless Natives
The Warriors
Exorcist
Jaws
French Connection
Italian Job
Get Carter
Slapshot was mega!
How about Logan's Run?
Ski, I was in HMV yesterday and bawked at the 16quid cost for Gran Torino. Probably a great film (revenge etc) but not 16quids worth. Got me thinking....remembering the great films that were made in the 70's. Scarface is still abit mainstream but I just love the mountain of coke- Pachino the pitbull off his face with coke allover him firing a M16 rifle and shouting you wannit ****s, you ****s, come and get it you ****s
Ah yeah The Warriors was ace!
Tora Tora Tora! is currently on sky anytime.
How about:
Raining Stones
Rita Sue and Bob too
Big Wednesday
so many films
chinatown
taxi driver
godfather 1 and 2
deer hunter
one flew over the cukoos nest
the last detail
badlands
apocalypse now
vanishing point
electra glide in blue
lenny
straw dogs
harold and maude
I miss Moviedrome with Alex Cox - used to love all the rare films he showed
And how about Jacob's Ladder...
wasn't that made in the 1990s?
Most of mine have been said above, and..
Kentucky Fried Movie
Saturn 3
Long Good Friday
Alien
Life of Brian
Rocky Horror Picture Show
OK, does anyone remember the name of:
Horror movie which has something to do with salmon getting infected with toxic waste, who then turn into human/fish looking monster who attack a fairground next to a river, ends abruptly, low budget, terrible acting?
Anyone remember the name?
It was that bad it was actually entertaining to watch.
ski wasn't that Prophecy
you know she was supposed to fully naked for that scene but her mum turned up on set that day!
some brilliant films listed so far
for a british 70s film id have to say get carter
(am i the only person that thinks italian job was actually a really stupid film with 1 good bit- where they drive round the roof of the fiat factory)
The Friends of Eddie Coyle
Charley Varrick
Silent Running
Deliverance
Taking of Pelham 123
The Warriors
The Duellists
Harry in Your Pocket
Barry Lyndon
Dersu Uzala
Walkabout, Ahh Jenny
The Wild Bunch
Slapshot was so funny
Any of the Hammer Horror films where a young pigface would catch his first glimpses of female flesh.
A car film where the last scene was the goodies/baddies escaping and then hitting a train. Anyone remember it?
Scum. i got the original and remake for a couple of quid. Brilliant film (s)
Withnal and I
Long Good Friday
1980
Hmmm! Good post and hard to add to it but thinking.
Withnal and I
Way out.
AND who remembers Melody (S.W.A.L.K) ,I was absolutely besotted with Mark Lester ,i was 12 and going through that 'difficult' stage of life. big coinsidence that he,s just popped up in the news lately about michael J,s children!
The decade for awesome films. Three to watch again:
Chinatown
Badlands
Mad Max
All the President's Men. BA had it as an inflight movie when I flew to the US around election time last year. Comic timing?
Once upon a Time in America.....maybe that was in the 80s
Boys From Company C
the andromeda strain
A fist ful of dollars
for a few dollars more
and the best bya mile the last of the 3, The good, the bad and the ugly
More Clint,
Where Eagles Dare
I can watch the films listed on this thread over and over.....wasn't it good when films had plot, character development and (some) decent acting. So many of todays films just rely on special effects and action.
A fist ful of dollars
for a few dollars more
and the best bya mile the last of the 3, The good, the bad and the ugly
All from the 60s though but 3 fantastic films.
Blimey.....Is Clint really that old now. Stioll a cool dude.
Bullet...or was that 60's too?
Cool Hand Luke....errr hang on Paul Newman is pretty yung in that film isn't he...err
Have Marathon Man- about to watch..
Westworld- out of stock in two HMV's due to 'stock take at Warner Bros'. Funnily I didnt know there was a sequel- Futureworld!
Dirty Harry.
Vanishing Point.
The Outlaw Josy Wales.
Dog Day Afternoon.
Don't think ones mentioned The Sting. A Paul Newman classic
Blimey.....Is Clint really that old now.
His movie career started in the 1950s
Move ‘em on, head ‘em up,
Head ‘em up, move ‘em out,
Move ‘em on, head ‘em out Rawhide!
Set ‘em out, ride ‘em in
Ride ‘em in, let ‘em out,
Cut ‘em out, ride ‘em in Rawhide
Rather depressingly I can remember Clint in Rawhide (TV show)
Anyway, a few others for the list
The Towering Inferno
A Clockwork Orange
Spot the theme.....
Vanishing point
Electra Glide in blue
Mad Max
Others:
A Clockwork Orange
O Lucky Man
If
French Connection
Mash
Catch 22
70s films rockkkkkkkkkkkk
Convoy
Watched Deer Hunter last night. IF the Director had ended the film where De Niro shoots into the air rather than kill the Stag then I think that would have been THE anti-war film of all time. It gets a little mired in itself after that and labours the Russian-roulette theme.
Anything with Burt Reynolds, especially Smokey & The Bandit and the Cannonball Runs
And of course Star Wars (the proper 3 of them) and Italian Job.
Not 70's but how about the King of New York?
two lane blacktop
thunderbolt and lightfoot
And how can forget the classic Deepthroat.
The Wild Geese
Walking Tall Part 2
The Driver
Heaven Can Wait
Gone in 60 seconds
Halloween
Close Encounters of the third kind
Slap shot was ace too.
"hey are you guys related?"
"we're brothers . . ."
"really??"
lol
Vanishing Point.
Catch 22
The film was gash. The book was great. Just don't read any more Heller - the rest of his stuff was as equally gash as the film of his book.
IMO
🙂
The Wild Geese
That was BRILLIANT! The end bit where they are running alongside the Dakota trying to get in?
No mention of The Shining yet?
Capricorn One, Deathrace 2000, Cronenberg's 'Shivers'
On a lighter note: Smokey and the Bandit, The Gumball Rally
Did anyone say Serpico yet?
The film where the car smashes into the side of the train as the 'bad guys' make their getaway is Dirty Mary Crazy Larry; as the crash happens in slomo, the last thing you hear is the girl scream. Most of those '70's films had really depressing endings...
Two of my favourites are They Call Me Trinity, and Trinity Is Still My Name, possibly the funniest westerns ever made, a huge fight between bunch of monks and a load of bandits always has me creased with laughter, total slapstick comedy.
No, the best was..
Rumack: Can you fly this plane, and land it?
Ted Striker: Surely you can't be serious.
Rumack: I am serious... and don't call me Shirley.
Or..
Rumack: Captain, how soon can you land?
Captain Oveur: I can't tell.
Rumack: You can tell me. I'm a doctor.
Captain Oveur: No. I mean I'm just not sure.
Rumack: Well, can't you take a guess?
Captain Oveur: Well, not for another two hours.
Rumack: You can't take a guess for another two hours?
