Charley Varrick.

The Taking of Pelham 123.

I did hear that they were remaking the Pelham one. Have to be good to beat Walter Matthau at his best.

Not a film, but a series - The Red Hand Gang (You'd managed to forget it, hadn't you?)

Films? Well, apart from Kelly's Heroes and the dirty Dozen, what more does a chap really need?

cfh, Kelly's Heroes is all you need really. Gold, tanks, a great theme tune, Telly Savalas and Donald Sutherland.

which reminds me - Catch 22 wasn't bad as a film- not as good as the book of course, but not bad.

For a modern day take on 70s sci films I can thoroughly recommend Moon. Very much a tribute to the slow burning sci fi films of the 70s like, Silent Running, 2001, Dark Star etc.

Ski, I was in HMV yesterday and bawked at the 16quid cost for Gran Torino. Probably a great film (revenge etc) but not 16quids worth. Got me thinking....remembering the great films that were made in the 70's. Scarface is still abit mainstream but I just love the mountain of coke- Pachino the pitbull off his face with coke allover him firing a M16 rifle and shouting you wannit ****s, you ****s, come and get it you ****s

OK, does anyone remember the name of:

Horror movie which has something to do with salmon getting infected with toxic waste, who then turn into human/fish looking monster who attack a fairground next to a river, ends abruptly, low budget, terrible acting?

Anyone remember the name?

It was that bad it was actually entertaining to watch.

A fist ful of dollars
for a few dollars more
and the best bya mile the last of the 3, The good, the bad and the ugly

More Clint,
Where Eagles Dare

I can watch the films listed on this thread over and over.....wasn't it good when films had plot, character development and (some) decent acting. So many of todays films just rely on special effects and action.

Move ‘em on, head ‘em up,
Head ‘em up, move ‘em out,
Move ‘em on, head ‘em out Rawhide!
Set ‘em out, ride ‘em in
Ride ‘em in, let ‘em out,
Cut ‘em out, ride ‘em in Rawhide

Rather depressingly I can remember Clint in Rawhide (TV show)

Anyway, a few others for the list

The Towering Inferno
A Clockwork Orange

Watched Deer Hunter last night. IF the Director had ended the film where De Niro shoots into the air rather than kill the Stag then I think that would have been THE anti-war film of all time. It gets a little mired in itself after that and labours the Russian-roulette theme.

Catch 22

The film was gash. The book was great. Just don't read any more Heller - the rest of his stuff was as equally gash as the film of his book.

IMO

The film where the car smashes into the side of the train as the 'bad guys' make their getaway is Dirty Mary Crazy Larry; as the crash happens in slomo, the last thing you hear is the girl scream. Most of those '70's films had really depressing endings...
Two of my favourites are They Call Me Trinity, and Trinity Is Still My Name, possibly the funniest westerns ever made, a huge fight between bunch of monks and a load of bandits always has me creased with laughter, total slapstick comedy.

No, the best was..

Rumack: Can you fly this plane, and land it?
Ted Striker: Surely you can't be serious.
Rumack: I am serious... and don't call me Shirley.

Or..
Rumack: Captain, how soon can you land?
Captain Oveur: I can't tell.
Rumack: You can tell me. I'm a doctor.
Captain Oveur: No. I mean I'm just not sure.
Rumack: Well, can't you take a guess?
Captain Oveur: Well, not for another two hours.
Rumack: You can't take a guess for another two hours?
