Not sure about this.  I find MAH more than a little wearing and I'm going to miss RadMac in the afternoons.

but no change to Steve Lamacq - what dirt does he have on the station controller?

That is one of the best press releases I've read in a long time, it truly sounds like it was written down the pub. top work!!

Happy to have Lauren on breakfast, don't tend to get the daytime stuff at work though. R&M on a saturday morning could mix well with a hang over

That sucks -  no RadMac in the afternoons!!! WTF!

Keaveny and Hobbs do nothing for me - bland, bland, bland.

I'll admit it - I'll miss Keaveny in the morning.  But the level of waffle and bollox in that press release is epic.

Agree Lauren will be easy on the ear at breakfast and weekend Radmac will be great but really will miss them in the afternoons (though i think the Keaveny and Everitt combo should be good).

I wish they'd give Lamaq's show to Tom Ravenscroft - he even makes Lamacq shitty features entertaining.

Absolutely, moving to weekend breakfast which is a time I can't listen. No chance of me listening to Mary Anne Hobbs at any time of the day.

I gave up on Keaveny about 8 years ago after the 50th time of hearing each of his five jokes. Love Laverne, I'm i'm buried in a spreadsheet I'll often have her on in my earphones at work, will have to reconfigure the alexa alarm to start playing 6music when she moves to mornings.

Ahhhhh good old MAH - the plain white wall of contemporary music masquerading as meaningful

That's probably a bit mean, but she's never interested me in the same way as Laverne who is my favourite DJ, purely for her enthusiasm

That's really annoyed me.  RadMac are the finest programme on the network, why oh why have they moved it? , Hobbs..No!!! I don't want to hear your ramblings about free range, symbiotic, freshly synergised retro-contemporary, post-modern expressions of new beats. etc etc.

To misquote RadMac: "the station controller must be an idiot savant...without the savant bit"

Yeah RadMac easily the greatest loss there, they obviously are looking at retirement wind-down + have loads of other stuff on judging by the number of solo shows they do.

I was never a huge fan of Keavney, but sticking with him and letting the in jokes build up with you is key I think. Will still be listening all day, so will see how it goes.

I find laverne quite irritating but not as irritating as SK who seems a bit past his sell by date, so perhaps it’s a marginal improvement

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

No Radmac in the afternoons?!

Mary Anne Hobbs soppy, insipid wittering about 'taking you on a cosmic aural journey into the unknown' make me want to hacksaw my own ears off

On the bright side, this will make shaving your head considerably easier.

Dunno what happened to Hobbs. Back in her Radio 1 days she spoke quite normally. Loved her shows. Even exchanged a few emails with her.

Now she has this fake wide-eyed swoony hushed sincerity going on, it really is quite unlistenable.

MAH drives me mad with her breathless wittering so I won't miss her on the weekends. I rarely get to listen to the late morning slot so it's a win for me.

RadMac will be sorely missed in the weekday afternoon slot. That is probably the show I listen to the most as it often coincides with driving home from site visits for work. It will be good to have them on in the mornings on the weekend though.

I hope SK can make the afternoon slot work. I find him a bit of a pain on the breakfast show but will give him a chance.

I like Maconie's quote in that BBC article:

“Ever since humanity first emerged from the primeval swamp and looked questioningly and fearfully towards the stars, a restless desire for change has been part of our DNA, and the scheduling of BBC radio programmes is no exception. I see the move of Radcliffe and Maconie to weekend mornings as part of the ceaseless turbine of progress that drives us all, somewhere between Elon Musk’s tiny submarines and landing on the moon. I am looking forward to it immensely.”

I wonder if he managed to keep a straight face while reeling that off?

Breathy, flighty...anyway...MAH

Count how many times she says anyway the next time she's on air.

And 'lifted' when referring to a release from a new album.

I'd never tire of slapping her in the face.

No Ravers? Give the people what they want!!!

I rejoice when he sits in for Steve Lemacqs, it's surely time for him to be put out to pasture. Count how many times he references his time at the NME or Elastica on a near daily basis. His 'features' are progressing into the banal. This week had important things you've forgotten, for fox sake take him away. No more! He's had a good innings.

I'd rather listen to road noise than whoever it is on weekday mornings just now.

Edit: That'll be Shaun Keaveny then. What a waste of a salary.

Only Radcliffe and Maconie's bit.

You can imagine the email exchange between the press office and RadMac

"Can we have a line from you on the programme changes to put on the release?"

"Do we have to?"

"Yes please.."

"Ever since humanity first emerged from the primeval swamp and looked questioningly and fearfully towards the stars..."

"<Sigh>"

We've just acquired a DAB radio in the van for the first time and tried switching from Chris Evans on Radio 2 to Sean Keaveny on 6.  Bloody hell, he doesn't half mumble.  With the engine noise, he's pretty much unlistenable, even if we crank it up to eleven!

The loss of RadMac is the worst news, though 🙁

Cerys is actually one of my go to's for weekend mornings getting sorted, just enough background to be good and interviews some really interesting and varied people.

Guess it's the problem with having such a diverse audience 🙂

Keavney's humour is slow I like it - I also like that others don't get it.

LL is good but I like humour in the morning not sure she has that - good taste in music though.

MAH - small doses but not 5 days a week!

Lamaq needs to go - he's one of the "old school" radio dj's - "So I was walking down the street yesterday and tripped over a bin...Ha Ha...why don't you message in with your hilarious bin stories?" it's just so obviously forced and scripted and I can't stand it when they get listeners to phone in. I really don't care about Gareth the Graphic designer from Aldershot and the first gig he went to FFS!

More than that Lama;cq, I really dont think UK indie  from the second half of the 90’s was the high point of rock and pop culture. It was a fairly dull period for music and it was 20 years ago. More interesting stuff happened before and after. I dont care about what happened when you were on the Evening Session on Radio1, i dont and didn’t care about any of the bands on your record label in the 90’s.  I’ve no interest in football the interminable “World Cup of” features are dull as hell.

Does anyone else on 6Music spend so much time talking about the things they did in the past?

I hope SK does well away from the breakfast slot after so long. I’m certain the BBC think we want jokes and hilarity in the morning, just look at how lame Craig Charles sounds when he does the slot and has to force jokes and morning bullshit.

Its like going away for the weekend with mates, don’t try and be funny in the morning, in fact don’t even speak, just play music and let me get my mental shit together.

Edit- I see Elizabeth Alker still doesn’t have her own show, which is a shame. Hers is a voice I could listen to for ever.

SK I’m guessing he is off to do more radio 4 etc meh

LL has really grown on me, but the move means I miss half of her show which is sad

MAH well it could be good, let’s see

SLM is a 80s/90s 6th form common room. Usually turn off until Riley comes on,.... which brings us to his inevitable successor and full inherited round circle ............

...... More Ravenscroft please

Cannot believe they're moving Rad Mac. I found 6 music because I loved their R2 evening show. They were perfect for the afternoon. Even my wife who only listens to Heart FM (the shame 😀) was completely shocked. Load of bollocks.

As a recent newcomer to the station, I have this to say: it's almost all electronica, synth bullshit.  Electronica lead humbug. I had such high hopes after the whole Dublin music festival thing involving interviews with all sorts of interesting sorts and very good music.  Been downhill since then.

Nah, I was only joking. I’ve just got a hatred of Djs, so can’t listen to the radio at all. Did listen to Tom R’s best of the year after seeing this thread and he had some good stuff (and some shite old indie sounding dreariness). Good that they’ve discovered the marvellous Sudan Archives. Only a year later than me, but better late than never eh? 😉

Cerys is good love her Welsh accent yet the one show presenter Welsh accent is like tinfoil on teeth, Geoff from the Pete and Geoff virgin show now on 5live, unusual choice for bbc as he is funny but could be close to the edge sometimes

NTS Is worth a shot for anyone looking to abandon, and is pretty open to new sounds, most of it's non DJ led chat wise, varied music, no news (frekin hate the constant interruption of the same not really news but we have to tell you this every hour all day BBC thing)

Plus monthly slots by Wetherall, David Holmes, Trevor Jackson. Autechre just did a month of guest mixes, gets a bit grime/urban for me at some times but it's my usual go to at any time of any day.

WFMU is also pretty great, and varied.

Giles Petersons Worldwide station is pretty good if your into his sounds.

I'd been hoping for a schedule change for years, only so Steve Lamacq could get moved to the late night shift where I wouldn't have to listen to his god-awful segments and terrible attempts at listener engagement (this week it was "tell us about your stories of when you forgot to take something on holiday") Can't believe he's survived the re-jig.

I used to really enjoy Keaveny and co, but in the last year their entire content seems to be based on the long-running joke that they don't have any content, which got wearisome a long time ago. Hope the move to the afternoon gives them some new energy.

MAH - Complete crap.

LL - lovely, in every possible way 🙂

I'm mostly pro the changes. Not everything is ideal for me (why should it be?) but I do like the fact that they're breaking up the WALL OF MIDDLE-AGED WHITE GUY on weekdays that only had LL as punctuation from 7am to midnight. A bit of a change in tone throughout the day will be most welcome.

I love SK and I'm gutted he's moving, but can understand the criticism. He's the anti Chris Evans with actual good music so you can expect the playlist but with deep soul, funk and some qotsa and the cure. Perfect for the morning and Matt Everett is sound, despite his hatred for hendrix

I can only listen to 6music at drive time now but have no time for lamaq, although he's a genuinely nice bloke. You can always expect some shit britpop a la echobelly dropped in with the playlist. And his features and call ins are excreble. I enjoyed the session with idles recently

Worst though is Liz Kershaw, how did she get the gig? She doesn't even have a music pedigree to fall back on. She's always getting stuff wrong as well. Just terrible

I agree, I think ravenscroft should get a regular slot as you can tell he loves his music and I find him easy on the ear

The afternoon show will be interesting.  it's being pitched as more of a RadMac style joint presenter gig than 'joining me for music news' as Matt was in the mornings and it could have quite a different feel to the morning show.

She is bloody awful! My favourite was the time she interviewed Nile Rodgers:

Liz: So Nile, tell us more about er, Studio 57

Nile: It was Studio 54!  Dude!  How can you get that wrong?

Liz: Well, I weren't there, were I?

Nile: .... hnggh..... phhhwwww....... whatever

Ah, I guess you’ve managed to only hear Nemone and Giles Peterson then. Nemone is obsessed with EDM, and will try to shove as much in as possible even when she’s doing someone else’s show. Still, could be worse, it could be the soulless, moribund wasteland that is Radio 1/Heart/Kiss FM that people at work listen to, and which are indistinguishable from each other, except that Radio 1 doesn’t have adverts on it.

Of course there’s going to be some electronic stuff on there, there’s loads about, I even like some of it. I particularly like the Underworld/ Iggy Pop collaboration, they’re playing at the mo’.

For me shame to see both Keaveny and Mary Anne Hobbs moving to slots where I'll no longer be able to listen to them live

Can't really call what the Lauren Laverne and Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie's new slots will be like as I rarely get to listen to them

Agree about Liz Kershaw - can't stand listening to her - one of the rare occasions I switch to Radio 2 instead

Giles Peterson is certainly nowhere near all electronica - maybe you should try listening to him...

One sentence from MAH is enough to get intensly annoyed at her condescending/faux expert/faux sexy tones.

Long term fan of Gilles - he has an enormously broad music taste, comparable to John Peel, but coming starting from a Jazz base rather than rock.  He'll happily play folk - you'll hear bits of Nick Drake, all sorts of stuff.  His slightly annoying current trail says he comes in each week with a big box of records and freestyles the show like a DJ set.  That means it can be really variable depending on what mood he's in - sometimes there will be a load of trad jazz, sometimes electronica, sometimes a lot of modern soul (which isn't my thing but all the rest works for me and you'll always hear something new and interesting).
