Well argued 🙂
If Underwood was playing today, he'd be just as guilty of kicking the ball away as anybody else. It's just modern tactics, unfortunately.
It's also something that will have to change soon, because it is really killing the game as a spectator sport.
At the risk of annoying backhander, I'd also add that the Guinness Prem seems especially bad for aimless kicking. (Whereas the Magners Wesh teams specialise in headless chicken, panic style rugby..)
I have noticed that my computer keeps disconnecting every time I try and post something constructive, but allows the snide anti-English stuff through. Weird!
DezB, couldn't have put it better myself!!
I do think the press are being a bit too harsh on Eng. We had more scoring opertunities than Italy, and really should have put away at least 2 more of them. However it was more lively than of recent times, but still a bit sporadic. I think Jerry Guscott has got to work out what he wants though. In the autumn it was win at all costs, now he want a win with style. Personally I will happily take the win, and hope we continue to improve. We will have to improve quite a bit before Twickenham in 2 weeks though

That is exactly my point.
I've never seen such un-entertaining rugby since I started watching it about 30 years ago.
Scrums have to be reset 3 bloody times, or the ref gives a totally random penalty! Then the scrum half just box-kicks! There used to be 1 or 2 box-kicks in a game, now theres about 10!
My point also about carling-underwood etc, was not those particualr players, but PASSING the ball - passing out to the wingers seems to be a dead art (only France doing it so far this tournament).
I agree DezB. Sounds like we're roughly the same age, and I'm feeling the same about watching the game.
I'll watch any rugby, live or on TV, but the most entertaining stuff I've seen this season is Swansea RFC, a semi-pro team, probably because defences are looser and fitness drops off a bit sooner n the game making it more open.
1-2 boxkicks per game? You didn't have Rob Jones in your team did you? I grew up on a diet of them!
IdleJon, any idea if you can still buy a Whites shirt? Not been able to find one online anywhere, am after one as a present for my father.
Still, the old stuff on ESPN Classic keeps me entertained. And the Sevens is on Sky Sports today. 🙂
(just so it's not all whinging from me)
Flash I am pretty sure you can, it is how I came to the Ospreys my dad was from Clydach so it was always the mighty whites. I am sure there is a club shop at the St Helens ground. Give them a call.
Thanks, Pigface. It's how I came to the O's as well, father's family from Swansea. Will give 'em a call....!

Scrums are a farce, but box kicking has always been here, go and watch the 89 lions in aus. Box kicks from Robert Jones and a load of English thugs won them that series.
(prize for first person who notices why this starts)
I agree the kick tennis is shit but think you are reminising through rose tinted spec if you think rory underwood was passed the ball much in his career.
Problem is the breakdown and refs allowing hands in the rucks from defences, means we end up with 7's like Wallace and Moody too rather than Williams, which has knock on effects on linking play and support. Whenever england made a break they needed a support runner but moody was awol
Mongo dropped like a stone. Good.
I would have thought stealing a golf cart and driving around in it would be treated as "high jinx" - the fun's gone out of rugby!
I hope JT can step up as he's not been playing 6 all season. Will give the pack a better looking balance with JT moving to 6 and Bradley Davis to 5. JT is a very good lineout player and Davis will bring in the grunt that JT lacked at 5. Shame Cooper wasnt in the golf buggy too.
tiggs, stealing a golf cart and driving it around would indeed be a top lark. Doing so when pished and driving it on roads isn't.
Capt Flash I know - tongue in cheek remark.
I see Flannery has been cited for a wee trip on the French winger.
It was only an "alleged" kick according to BBC website!
Well I know Mongo had to go but I for one will miss him, not because he is a great player because he isnt but because Rugby needs characters.
I know he broke the law and is a thick as a brick but he reminds me of the amateur game where fun and enjoyment was the reason people played.

Talking of trips - Godman on Lee Byrne: “The referee was a bit late with his decision. The Welsh players have put their hands up and he’s given it. I did not trip him. I did not block him.”
Scotland coach Andy Robinson backed his player’s version of events, saying: “I think he (Byrne) dived. There was no contact made by Phil and to lose in that manner is very hard to take..."
Was there any replay of that? I didn't see one.
I saw a slow mo reply on the red button prog after the england italy game and there was contact. No way a red card but a pen at least. No ones mentioned Blairs trip on 1/2p in the lead up to wales last try either. That was a yellow card and pen try IMO.
It's a shame for Wales that the most annoyingly patriotic country in the world cant produce coppers who are patriotic enough to turn a blind eye. I for one like a bit of elitism and would have let him off for who he is and what he would mean to a welsh supporter. I think the bloke who nicked him might find that the brass in the welsh force might find a way to punish him. I wonder if the cop was english..
I don't see too many Welsh on here complaining that he has been dropped??
And why English, why not Scottish after the day they had?
RACIST!!
Or, God forbid, he might have no idea who Mr Powell is as he is not a global superstar, but plays a minority sport (and has only 14 caps for his country)
I'm English that's why, but I see your point, maybe he was Scottish. And yes he isn't Shane Williams, I was just using this as a backhanded way to further my xenophobic attitude to the welsh..
I would have thought stealing a golf cart and driving around in it would be treated as "high jinx"
It probably would be considering he was an egg chaser. It's usually only footballers that are vilified as chav scum for theft, drunkeness and endagering lives.
Tally ho, old bean.
I thought that Welsh police would have just towed Powell back to the hotel, after a round of autographs, such is the status of Internationals in Wales! A golf buggy in Febuary for 5 miles, must have been freezing. The real reason he has been dropped is because he has flu!

This was my point, better put by the duckman..
CFH, sorry for the late reply, but yes you can buy Whites shirts from the clubhouse at St Helens, but strangely I can't see them (or anything else) for sale on the website.
(Couple of boys in work this evening wearing them, and we also have one of the Whites wingers working further down the office - I'm sure he's got a few spares!!)
I'm sure he's got a few spares!!)
I'll take two, please.... XXL (I likes 'em baggy for casual wear!) - One 15 (the gift) and one 6 (for me...)
😉
Thanks, Ian. Haven't rung St Helens yet, but am going to get round to it soon!

LOL, XXL? He's a quick winger not a fat biffa!
Was meaning he could half-inch a couple! 😉
I told you that injury looked bad, I was suprised when he carried on. Bollocks

Bugger and he put a big hit in with it dangling by his side, will really miss him.

WRU statement
19 February 2010, 4:00 pm
By WRUThe Welsh Rugby Union has offered its sympathy to national squad member, Bradley Davies, over the sad and sudden loss of his mother who passed away overnight.
Wales coach Warren Gatland has spoken to the player and offered him the sympathy and support of the entire squad and management. He has told the player to focus entirely on personal issues and his absence from any training or planning sessions will not count against his consideration for any of the forthcoming international fixtures.
Warren Gatland said: "Our thoughts and sympathies are with Bradley and his family and friends at this difficult time for them all.
"I have told Bradley that we fully understand that his focus is on this sad loss and his absence from any of our sessions will not count against his continued inclusion in the RBS 6 Nations squad.
"I will announce the team to play France on Monday and I have informed Bradley that he will be selected in the starting XV.
"His initial view is that his mother would be extremely proud of that and he wants to play any part he is selected for.
"Of course I will fully understand if he and his family come to any other decision and it is important now they spend time together to come to terms with their loss.
"We are extremely close as a squad and Bradley knows if he wants to be with the boys we'll welcome him and equally, we will understand if he needs to be away from the training park right now."
His mother Sheryl died suddenly after a short illness.
Flanker Fulgence Ouedraogo, who started in the wins over Scotland and Ireland, has been ruled out with a calf injury. He has been replaced in the squad by Alexandre Lapandry, who has just one cap, though Julien Bonnaire may also come into contention for a start.
Experienced prop Sylvain Marconnet has also been ruled out and been replaced by the uncapped Clement Baiocco.

There is hope!
Can't believe Ireland are appealing Flannery's ban! 6 weeks is the very least he deserves. Sometimes I wish the game wasn't so 'professional'
They're appealing? WTF? There can be no grounds for that at all!
Just watch it again.
I am worried about tonight
I'm worried about tomorrow AND 20th March!

He's got previous hasn't he - 2008 banned for stamping on somebody's head. Appealed and got the ban halved just in time for the 6N.
I was just about to mention the countdown to tonight's game, but just realised that the U20s game is starting shortly and also a Super14 game.
Right, time to go and get Mickey Mouse's Clubhouse off the TV.

Aye, he's got previous. IMO, any appeal that is unsuccessful should double the ban!
Now then, where's my glass.....*pfffff...glugglugglugglug***
Felinfoel to start of with!
Could the mighty STW make England win tomorrow so the Irish colleagues suffer a bit more, please?
Six Nations on a Friday just plain wrong, U20's just brilliant tonig :Dht
