How's it nonsense, TM? Care to explain? Or do you simply prefer slagging people off without good reason?

So rude...

Rumour has it Shearer's coming back... to get Newcastle relegated. Again.

Bring back Michael Owen, he was dead good. For Liverpool at least.

Nonsense.

Someone was here talking nonsense earlier...something about it being the worst deal ever. Wasn't you though tm was it?

yup, no one proved me wrong.

The only people who seem to think it's anything but a complete disaster for Liverpool are Liverpool fans. Funny that.

Hasn't been a single Chelsea fan on here crying about wasting £50m on Torres or Toon fans saying that £35m isn't enough for Carroll.

Go figure.

yup, no one proved me wrong.

You seem confused. I think plenty of people showed you were erroneous, you just chose to ignore them. I hear a few neutral people on the radio (who have probably forgotten more about football than you or I know) saying that's it not a bad deal. Not that I'm convinced myself of course.

Are you still saying it was "the worst Prem deal ever"? Or is it that thing you have about Liverpool surfacing again?

EDIT: grumm, it seems that it brings out the nobber wanting to tell people having a good old argument about football what nobbers they are. Doesn't it?

Erm, you haven't proven yourself right, either. 🙄

Why are you so rude? Have you had a bad day? Do you want a hug?

No confusion. Some people posted deals that were bad but no one came up with something on a par with £35m for 11 prem goals. Still waiting.

Or is it that thing you have about Liverpool surfacing again?

mmmmkay.

Don't be so harsh on yourself grumm

Andy Carroll is a good player and looks like a hell of a prospect. I just think that is a crazy amount of money for a prospect. Crazy days.

Yep. (problem with speech this evening?)

Ah **** it, there's no point arguing it with you...plenty above posted ridiculous deals. If you've got it fixed in your head that it's the "worst Prem deal ever" (your words, not mine), then fair enough, in your head, it probably is sweetheart. Seems neither of us can prove it right or wrong...especially not you.

Carroll has been involved in many off-the-pitch incidents in his career. On 14 September 2008, Carroll was arrested by police in Newcastle responding to a report that a woman had been assaulted, and later accepted a police caution for assault.[38] On 7 December 2009, he was arrested in the aftermath of a nightclub fight, again in Newcastle, accused of smashing glass in a man's face.[39] He was charged with assault and in October 2010 he pleaded guilty to common assault and was fined £1,000. He was also ordered to pay £2,500 compensation.[40] He was also involved in an incident on the training ground which allegedly left teammate Steven Taylor with a broken jaw though no charges were filed according to police.[41] Carroll reportedly suffered a broken hand in the incident, and he was shortly photographed in a pop concert with bandages to both hands.[42] Then-Newcastle manager Chris Hughton and club representatives declined to comment any further on the incident.[43] On 18 October 2010, Carroll was charged with assaulting a former girlfriend. Claiming self-defence, and having given a local hotel as his address, Carroll was granted bail on the condition that he resides with Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan until the case resumes in January. The charges were later dropped due to lack of evidence.[44] Two days following his bail, Carroll's car was set on fire whilst parked on Nolan's driveway, with the club captain's garage door also being daubed with obscenities.[

He'll fit in well with the Liverpool players/fans then

Worst Prem deal ever = Veron.

Twice. Both United and Chelsea, arguably Chelsea was worse as he had proven himself not up to the premier league.

El Haj Diouf to all the clubs he's been to - complete tosser!

Up in Scotland, we are hearing that Rangers have signed El Hadji Diouf from Blackburn

Arse!

Why not ? I've made it clear that I'm happy to be proven wrong

plenty above posted ridiculous deals

Which I've ackowledged. Still nothing on a par with £35m for 11 goals and a track record of ill behaviour.

sweetheart

love you too

Seems neither of us can prove it right or wrong...especially not you

Well, maybe there's truth in that, after all, it's all subjective - apart from Torres's proven track record, Carrolls lack of one and the £15m differential that connects the two.

HMRC are going to be licking their lips as they work out the VAT on £85m worth of players.

love you too

I'm all warm inside now.

Torres's proven track record,

Great season he's had. Broken hamstrings an' all. Great prospect. Mind you, he'll still bang in about twenty for Chelsea now. I'm just glad Liverpool didn't have to take Anelka as part of the deal.

Come on, I can't really hope to take your point of view seriously if you're going to claim that Torres is a poor player because he's had a bad injury. It's not even an injury that he won't fully recover from.

There is also Diego Forlan.

Nope, not having that. Utd didn't pay a fortune for him and he always was and is a very, very good player. Veron yes, Forlan no way.

Newcastle have bent Liverpool over financially, that's not in question. It's the most egregious example of overpaying for a player I've every heard of - there's no comparison is there? [I'm not talking about players who cost a fortune and turned out to be poor - I mean at time of purchase].

Still, you can't call it a terrible deal - it'll just be mediocre, appropriately enough for LFC. Carroll looks very good and could easily be a success, but he'll never be in the same solar system as Torres as a player.

Best young perspective goalscorer in the premiership at the moment: Hernandez. Scouted by the grand-master in the dark arts for was it $7million?

Makes The whole Torres/Carrol saga look even sadder. Carrol is definitely five times the player. Old bacon-face strikes again eh fred 😉 We'll win this year and carry on winning with this farce going on! Happy days 😀

yes fred [ very rude swear word ferguson] gets all upset about someone being rude to him ah bless. Have you heard of karma? Footy still brings out the ranty old fred of old..I do miss him
persoanlly Torres for 50 m is superb deal on current form and if you cannot hold on to him. Caroll for 35 m is a huge gamble and only time will tell. Personally I am not even sure he is worth 15 m on present record and makes the bent deal look a snip

Have you bin drinking, Binners? 🙄 Give it a couple of years; Bacon Face retires, Man U are skint, go into administration, have to sell all their talent, have no money to buy new players, have to sell their stadium to developers then pay rent to use it, sink down the table, get relegated, spend decades in the wilderness, and Man City fayns will be laughing to their graves.

You know that isn't all that impossible, either. This could be your last season of any success, for a long, long time. You know it too, don't you? £700m and rising....

If Chelsea hadn't offered such a ridiculous sum for Torres, Liverpool wouldn't be paying £35m+ for Carrol.

As I said; when it all pans out, Liverpool could end up with a net spend of just £10m or so, and have 2 or three decent new players. Torres isn't irreplaceable. No one is. Ask David Beckham...

Chelsea are looking at spending over seventy million pounds tonight. If they then don't win owt this season, that could prove very costly indeed...

No, I think that's clear enough. I'll be losing sleep over it.

(My post to which you refer was missing some smileys to indicate that I was being sarcastic. Too late to edit now).

When do the financial fair play rules come into effect? You know the ones that stop clubs who have made huge losses from spending huge sums on players...

SBZ - fairly soon I think - UEFA were proposing 2012? No doubt it'll drag on in the courts for a bit with the likes of Chelsea and City looking to get round things. UEFA may need to be careful the clubs don't rebel and form their own Euro super league....in my opinion.

I think it's next season. The interest alone on Man U's debts would see them in serious trouble. Man City and Chelsea's owners can simply cancel their debt, but the Glazers aren't in that luxurious position.

End of this season the rules kick in regarding transfer spending, the full rules start at the beginning of the 2012 season

I wonder why FIFA/UEFA don't consider a transfer budget cap like the budget cap in F1? Say, £50m per season per club? Would mean that clubs could either spend all their money in the summer, or keep some for the January window.

Also, what about squad size limits, like in International competition? Say, 25-30 players per team per season? Would stop the huge squad sizes that Man U and Chelsea especially enjoy. And the luxury big clubs have of having cup squads, European squads, etc. Plus it might put an end to clubs buying up players so their rivals can't have them, then loaning them out to lower teams.

£50m per season per club?

That would do Arsenal for about 5 years.

Elf - for the Champions League the clubs have to name no more than 25 players that can play in the comp.

Would that pay for one of the seats in the middle tier of The [insert sponsor's name] atmosphere-lite Stadium for five years?
