Just seen the first reviews for it – having recently seen 28 Years Later (and really enjoyed it), I am very excited about the next installment. Unfortunately one review let slip about a great scene featuring one of my all-time favourite bands in the soundtrack – it would have been good to have had that as a nice surprise.

This the Bradshaw review in the Guardian? We have a rule of thumb that says "How good a movie actually is is inversely proportional to how glowing a review Peter Bradshaw gives it". This is especially true if the movie contains 1. a 'serious' established male actor (check) 2. a 'serious' up and coming new (male) actor (check) and 3. a male director (check).

Bradshaw's nothing if not consistent about what he likes

Yes, that particular spoiler was from The Guardian, but all the other reviews I have read are very positive.

Off to see it this evening; I am a huge "28..." fanboy since I was 12 and watched the first one. Loved Years, thought it was a surprisingly beautiful film if not very weird to most.

Excited!

I really don't get Bradshaw's way of doing things. I don't expect to agree with him but man he has some strange ways of telling you the whole plot and what he didn't like.

Looking forward to this. 28YL was easily the best of the series so far.

I was pretty disappointed with 28 Years tbh! and the Bone Temple scene probably the most silly part of it...Climbing up and hanging a skull off it I found pretty laughable. So, I think I'll avoid this one 😀

Despite it being a .. ahem, masterpiece !

Booked in for a few weeks, I’ve jumped to the bottom of the threat to avoid potential spoilers. Enjoyed 28 Years and looking forward to this, see you in a few weeks.

I thought 28YL was mleh. But this is true for almost the entirety of Alex Garland's writing career. Nearly all his films are really great 'one liner' ideas but never really go anywhere. There are a few exceptions; Ex Machina for instance, but nearly all his own stuff is like this. "what if a man is in a coma while there's a zombie plague",  "What if the amazing-but-difficult-to-access holiday destination is actually a hide out for drug smugglers." yeah, ok, and..?

Double bill last night, after 28 days live on Saturday.

I messed up the booking as I did not check the age rating for Bone Temple. Surprised how easy it was to get a 15 year old in😐( buy a ticket for a 12a film)

I know I have poor parenting skills as previously stated on here for taking my son to a film where he asked what a tosser was😃

Every cloud though, he loved the new one and enjoyed watching 28 years again.

What I liked about 28YL was in the confines of the genre it went in different directions. More thoughtfulness etc.

Alex Garland is a it bit of a funny one - I always think his screen work is uneven - he does great scenes but not particularly great movies. Civil War and Warfare good examples of this. Both had fantastic moments, such as the Jesse Plemons section. But I can't remember much else about Civil War.

I know in the 28 series they're not really Zombies but it feels very much like they are too me and no back story really changes the impact of that.

The modern 'Zombie' genre is exhausted and has become dull (fast Zombies yawn) but then I'm a George Romero fan

The mind boggles at this one.

Is this a 'Confessions of' 70s soft porn job?

Enjoyed the first film, and the second one up until the ending, that was just all a bit stupid IMO, so I don't have high hopes for the third.

It's the fourth film.

Oh, hadn't spotted that, 28 years later, and then 28 Years Later The Bone Temple.

I got most of the way through the 28 years Later but my 'feed' crashed at the Bone Temple bit. Wasn't that impressed and thought it a bit slow.

Back from Bone Temple, no spoilers, but it's a very different movie to 28 Years considering they filmed the first two back to back. More Jimmy's, less zombies and a lot more story.

Finally got to see Richard Dunn Sports Centre somewhere I've spent a lot of time, looks like they've tidied it up a bit for a believable post apocalyptic feel.

Mrsfoo enjoyed it more than 28 Years which she thought weird at first, but now everything makes more sense, the threads join up. I'm looking forward to final installment!

Sort of wished I'd gone to see this now, cos we went to see Marty Supreme and left before the end. There's only so much NEWYOIKERS SHOUTING, CGIed table tennis balls and EXTREME CLOSE-UPs a man ( and woman) can take. ****in awful.

CGIed table tennis balls? The mind boggles at why, but then I'm not planning on going to see any film about table tennis.  😀

Went to see TBT last night and we both thought it was ace! Much faster paced than 28 Years.

The soundtrack is ace!, but that’s no surprise as Hildur Guðnadòttir composed the score for the film.

I’ll watch when it appears on streaming

Watched 28 years later about a month ago, saw 28 days later last night (for the first time). Haven't seen 28 weeks later yet. Hope to get to the cinema to see TBT this weekend. Really enjoy a good "Zombie" film but wife hates them hence delay seeing them. 19yo daughter loves a good zombie film\tv series though so don't have to go to the cinema on my own 🙂

Watched 28 years later: the bone temple earlier today. Crikey! The director eschews Hollywood glamor violence for some visceral and brutal menacing violence. The Mortal Kombat Sub-Zero style move Samson pulls offers some relative comic relief on the violence front.

Once I got over the grimness and violence early on it was nice to revisit Ralph Fiennes' mad doctor and enjoy some fun events.

just got back from it. Brutal. loved the way it ended with how two of the characters arcs ended

great performances from the cast though. feels like a bit of a filler installment between 28 Years Later… and whatever the 3rd one is going to be called though.

Glad I wasn't the only one. Probably one of the worse films I sat through in 2025.

No intention of giving the Bone Temple a go.

Been to see it this afternoon.

Absolutely loved it, a great story line of the social breakdown and more into what causes the infected to be raged. Fiennes was absolutely spot on.

Where's the city near the start - Sheffield?

EDIT: Bratford!

Great to place spot in the first 28yrs - Kielder, Rothbury, Simonside etc.

Nice to see Ennerdale in the latest one too. The 'shirt removing' bits, not so nice.

Crikey!

Worth waiting a few weeks for a quiet morning screening, that one.

Saw it with my 19yr old son recently, we both absolutely loved it - ‘that’ scene was awesome. Found the allegorical aspect about the breakdown of society with the divide between the rational - scientific vs irrational, religious/superstitious very prescient

Finally got round to seeing it. Only us and one other couple in the cinema. Bliss with no youth chatting or adults eating and texting.

Loved it. Less 'arty' (Boyley?) and knowingly cinematic than the previous installment, but a bit more raw and gutsy.

Another Garland script that wears the clothes of a genre but isn't really that thing at all. Some of the 'revision' dialogue at the end makes me really intrigued for the final installment and how political/philosophical it might get.

Knew the Maiden scene was in there, but it was still brilliant work from Fiennes. Him and O'Connell turning scenery chewing into an art all the way through (while still actually imbuing their characters with humanity and depth).

Did not know the ending was coming, at least until the establishing shots showed the location and then it was all anticipation...

Howzat?!?

I really enjoyed 28yl.

quite subversive with the whole ‘jimmy’ angle.

what belief systems would survive a zombie apocalypse?

The movie has to take credit for not merely repeating the usual hackneyed cliches that dog most British flicks.

quite gorgeous cinematography, but I thought there would have been more of a cacophony of bird song in the forests.

the version I saw had the causeway scene removed, so i look forward to a proper blu-ray release.

Went for a walk this morning with OH down to where the bone temple set was built. It's one of our regular short walks from the village and we walked past many times while the set was there, it was an interesting time watching it slowly take shape over the weeks. We were remembering many of the places in the woods that we recognised in the film.

OH runs a small agricultural hardware shop and many of the set crew would call in for bits and pieces while the set was being built. Quite a few of the local estate workers were involved in ferrying actors on to set  on quad bikes. One of them had been in the shop talking to OH about it, didn't have a clue who any of them were but took great delight in telling her that he had given a lift to a massive naked guy. He said he couldn't help but stare at him and the actor laughed and said "don't worry mate, it's fake".

Edit: just remembered one night as we were off to bed we looked out of the window and saw lots of coloured lights flashing in the sky over where the set was. It's obvious now which part was being filmed that night.

Saw this a few weeks ago and thought it was great. Tough start but it kept building from there.
Preferred it to 28YL.
The Maiden scene was great, same sort of feeling from it as the strobe scene in Kick Ass.

Finally caught up with this and had high hopes as a big fan of the original movies.

Much like Alien & Terminator, first 2 movies were great, then the whole legacy was tarnished with dross therafter. So disappointed.
