yes, we should really have got married in the summer but..... anyways
cant afford the price or the time off work for a long haul trip to sri lanka or owt, so we're thinking itll have to be here in the uk. mid december, 3 days min, a week maximum.
never been to the lakes so thinking a cabin or somethings with a fetid sex pond hot tub, dogs getting on a bit now so no long, steep walks required, maybe 2 hrs max flattish walks nearby with a decent pub near to the accommodation.
bonus points for views of some sort of view from the door. wifes found a website called coolstays.com that seem to have some nice places on it but we dont really know which areas are recommended and which are too touristy.
nothing short of romantic will do, hey its our 25th! 🙂
and if not the lakes, we're open to any suggestions really. we'd like our own pad somewhere, not a hotel, and probably no more than 4 hrs drive from lincoln as we'll have the dog in the car.
what suggestions have you got for us? 🙂
thank youÂ
I'd go to the Northumberland coast for a few days. If you're within walking distance of a town you can have shops, cafes, pubs etc nearby.
December should be fairly quiet.
never been to the lakes
an excellent reason to go, there is something special about the LD -- though in Dec you might not see much of its upland splendours as it'll be dark and raining, still I am sure there would be some other ways of passing a bit of time...Â
If you're very keen on the Lakes, Portinscale is nice and only a 20 mins walk to KeswickÂ
we had a long weekend here in February.
Its a lovely newly refurbed cottage in Eskdale , a short walk from two nice pubs.
Eskdale is a lovely part of the lakes - it will be pretty quiet in December, the Esk trail is a flat (but interesting) walk along river all the way through the valley and it goes pretty much from the house.
The only downside is that its west lakes, so another hour or so on your trip.
Patterdale Hall Estate, choice of walks from the door (if you go I can give you some tips), pubs in Glenridding and Patterdale. And, profits from The Estate go to North East YMCA.
Given it'll be cold, wet and windy pretty much anywhere in northern Europe a city break might be more fun. We had a week in Berlin in December and found enough to do to distract from the cold and damp. If you can find someone to dog sit that is.
maybe 2 hrs max flattish walks nearby with a decent pub near to the accommodation.
Purbeck, somewhere near the Square and Compass in Worth Matravers, coastal walks, rolling hills, nearby towns if the wind and rain gets too much, a day out on Portland, fish and chips in Swanage... loads of cottagey type accommodation in the area especially off season. Four hours drive from Lincoln? Hmm possibly on a good day!
thanks for the suggestions so far, ill look into them tomorrow.
as for a city break, its certainly something we'd consider. we'd maybe be able to find a dog sitter for 3 days, probably no more than that but 3 days is about right for a city break.Â
cheers
