Really enjoyed that. Great program highlighting just how lucky we are with our varied and stunning countryside.

Bit staggered that the coast to coast only came 53rd. Helvellyn winning should have at least featured the classic walk around the egdes instead of up Kepple Cove.

oh and Julia Bradbury..... top of my allowed list.

I wanted to watch it, but thought the outcome to be predictable.

And I was right it seems.

I bet on Snowdon or Hellvelyn FTw....

Agreed with the comments about how varied our landscape is.

Maybe the way the director wanted it, but how many folk clearly have a place they go to endlessly for a walk. A lot of my interest is exploring new places and routes.

That video bit of Striding Edge was enough to convince me never to go near the place - and not due to the exposure.

Was good nice to see so many varied areas. Yes that footage of Striding was very off putting, reminds me of why I like shift work.

That chap on Offa’s Dyke loved himself a bit mind found him very annoying.

Offa's Dyke bloke was a right tit.

Great to see so many of the places I've walked. They should have at least recognised other trail users though.

@scotroutes - I agree, much of lakes Is like that in the season. I did one of my dissertations on Helvellyn in 1996, and have a picture of 231 people on Striding edge in one go...

I recorded it but won't bother watching now I know which walk won 🙂

Where's that 'spolier' feature?

Surely not clicking on a 100 British Walks thread the day after broadcast would've been a sensible precaution?

100 Great British Walks

No. 37 - The walk of shame through the office after you've been made redundant, red-rimmed eyes downcast, clutching a tatty bankers box containing your "special" mug, a photo of your kids and a half empty box of minestrone cup-a soups. You bitterly mutter something about brexit under your breath as you shuffle disconsolately toward the bus stop.

Only watched until 9.00pm until Silent Witness ( Julia is ok ..but Emilie Fox is better eye candy 😉 )  came on but recorded the rest ..it doesn't really matter which walk 'won'..I just enjoyed seeing parts of the country that I didn't know about and will probably never visit ..looking forward to watching the last hour ..

<span style="color: #444444;">Why? It was called '100 Great British WALKS' </span>

<span style="color: #444444;">not </span>

<span style="color: #444444;">'100 Great British Trails for Anyone Who Doesn't Necessarily Want to Walk And Would Rather Use Other Modes of Transport'</span>

Enjoyed it and thought the camera work and the pace of the segments was really good.  Presenters good too.  I need to count up how many I've done as it seemed a decent %.

If it was a popular vote I was very surprised to see that NE walk so high when places  that are much nearer more centres of populations lower down.

"That video bit of Striding Edge was enough to convince me never to go near the place – and not due to the exposure."

I did with my dad as a teenager back in the day.

Did it with my late teens summer this summer

Did we have it to ourselves? No

Where they both wonderful memorable days? Yes

I also did it with my dad , sister & brother ..as a 10 year old ..my sister being a year younger & my brother 3 years younger ..then the mist descended and we had to abort ..still have vivid memories !

For the record ..my dad ran an outdoor education centre before starting his own business and we were well kitted out ..

"Helvellyn winning should have at least featured the classic walk around the egdes instead of up Kepple Cove"

I wonder if that was deliberate - a programme like that will encourage thousands to take on that walk. If you've been on Snowdon recently, you will realise the level of punter that takes on the 'challenge of Mount Snowdon', the dog and toddler in tow while carrying nothing more than an iPhone. Striding and Swirrell are the scene of many accidents already.

To be fair - Snowdon (not Mount Snowdon) has been like that for years. I lived in the area for most of the 1990s and there were regular sightings and occasional rescues of inappropriately dressed punters.

Looking at the link posted by @klunk and from what was said on the programme, just 12 in Scotland! I could pick 12 in the far north west. There isn't any part of the Cuillin Ridge for example. There's only three in Snowdonia as well.

I suspect that many of the voters were, to be polite, of advanced years.

Well yes there’s thousands of walks across the UK, I know dozens around here alone but it’s ‘The best 100’ doesn’t mean it might be your best 100 or that there should be more in one area than another. Possibly was voted more by a certain generation but then again how many old fuddies would manage Stiding Edge?

I didn't know this was on until yesterday evening and only watched the first 40 mins due to ferrying kids around, I wanted to see where the big H came in as we are up there this weekend walking. Same it will be busier than Piccadilly circus now .. Im looking forward to counting the numbers of trainer wearers

I know it was "100 favourite walks" and there's a multitude of factors that could influence that but there a lot of canal tow paths present (one of those mentioned is most of my commute!), enough that give a feeling it was more "my favourite cup of tea and a sit down".

I could pick several "favourites" depending on whether you asked about scenery, history, wildlife, flora, etc. Interestingly, if there's a bias then it's to the northern counties of England - 29 are in the counties between the Scottish border and the Mersey-Humber, M62 line.

Glad to see that a few here in my adopted county of Norfolk included and that somewhere doesn't always have to have hills to be considered scenic and a good walk (that's not to say i don't love being in the hills).

Surely Scotland should just count as one walk. 🙂

That’s pretty much what it was about probably why they called 100 Favourite Walks.

I did laugh at JBs comment "there are over 100 named waterfalls in the UK". Well, I guess it's technically correct but it's like saying "there are over 100 people living in London".

To be fair – Snowdon (not Mount Snowdon)

Tell that to the *dozens* who seem to insist on calling it that 🙁

I lived in the area for most of the 1990s and there were regular sightings and occasional rescues of inappropriately dressed punters.

Agreed - I spent four years in the early '90's around the place, and it was busy.
Last easter though I was shocked how many folk were up there on a misty, hovering around freezing, snow patches all around day, with lots of signs telling folk it was snowy and cold, and not to attempt....

Same here, although my acrophobia probably wouldn’t let me even think about going near it, but it looked like ants walking across a branch.
The othe route up looked far more appealing.
Enjoyed the programme, showed me just how little of the nation of my birth I’ve actually walked over, let alone visited.

I’m not sure there’s many spiders up there so you’ll be fine.
