Haha I was going to put money on Weeksy being back after only one day, there is no way you were ever going to take 7 days off Steve 😉

Only thing with Yorkshire is its quite short, so would want 2 laps at least really, by that point you're into 450m of climbing which is a fair lump for those who don't climb!

Any how should be fun where ever we choose and what do I know?

Of course not - if he doesn't invite the hounds then the hares win! 🙂

@slowpuncheur - you'll need to follow me on zwift first then I'll be able to invite you.

Course-wise I reckon stick with watopia, it'll be busy but we'll be in small enough groups that it won't be too bad. Also, when you do a h&h on a lapped course you can work out the rate of closure too easily, if the hounds have taken 4 minutes from 6 in lap one then you know you're getting caught. On a single lap it's harder to judge so as a hare you keep pushing a bit more.

Come on Weeksy, you know you want to do it - think of it as tapering if that helps. ..

Phil56 - you've already accepted by the look of it, assuming you're "Phil Phil56" on zwift which seems a safe bet!

Went out and reprofiled the local jump area, well, only one of them...

not sure how much 'riding' it's classed as, but we had a laugh instead of Zwifting 🙂

New version of the companion app due out today will give the option to create private meet-ups meaning that you only get to see he riders that are part of your meet-up, Sounds great for STW rides.

Well I've ended up in the office this week so I'll have a commute in my legs tonight as well. Will have to see how that goes! Still it'll give me a clue as to how bad Thursday will be by the time I've got a few more days in too.

@slowpuncheur - sorted, you should have an invite.

We're now in "meet-up only" mode so the only people we'll see on the road will be our lot so there goes my idea of the hares jumping from draft to draft...

For the purposes of easy identification I think different jerseys and user names will still help so (STW Hare) or STW (Hound) in the user name as appropriate and Hares in the basic grey Zwift jersey and Hounds in the, now traditional, bumblebee ensemble.

If the hares are caught before 16km/10miles then we'll regroup for a steady run in to a sprint finish.

If the hares aren't caught at all then they can go for individual glory in a sprint.

If the hounds do catch the hares at some point after 16km they still need to get someone over the line first so if a hare can hang on and win the sprint then the hares still win...

That should cover most things, I'm sure we'll end-up cuffing it anyway!

If the hares are caught before 16km

I like your optimism Ivan but I think if we've closed 6 minutes in 16k we need to consider why we've not turned pro.

Still it'll be a challenge.

I think it would have to be pretty hilly and pretty intense, but i guess it depends how the Hares play it, if they stay as a group and ride as the slowest man, then maybe... but of course that depends how the Hounds play it and whether the strongest climber goes off in the attack or waits for the rest..

I'll be curious to know the end results etc

You're in luck. 39.8km according to zwift insider.

I did mean to write 45km .. 6 minutes😬

Ok ..10 min at 3.6w/kg ...
Then when warmed up ... Hammer down and try hold it till gap closes!

Getting geeky about it on bestbikeslpit.

If I average 237 watt a C rider then I will complete the course in 55 mins.

If I up my average power to 320 W then I would complete it in 49 mins and 14 seconds so 6 minutes would appear to be a reasonable marker!

HA HA! I seem to be lucky to hold 175W at the moment - so I'll be caught then.
Legs still tired from a 10km run on Sunday when I knocked quite a chunk of my PB, so it'll be interesting.

I don't see it being too much of a problem if there are splinter groups within the hares/hounds - it'll just mean the hounds will have multiple targets to catch & the hares will have multiple opportunities to stay ahead....

My attempt at heart failure in less than

That based on my weight. Guessing you weigh a lot less so a lot less power required for similar times.

The hounds only have one target - whichever hare is the furthest in front.

I'm sorely tempted to join in this one but it's sooo nice outside...

I'll be in for a group ride if there's one on Saturday though as the forecast really doesn't look very inviting up here.

Not sure on the first bit but, I'm fairly tall at 6'4" so not very aero and on a flat course w/kg is a bit of a distraction.

Weight alone, at 300W I'd need to weigh 50kg less to make 6 min at the same W based on Geekery

It'll be fun anyhow, and if I break myself this evening it's a good excuse for the TTT 😉

237 watt will complete the course in 55 mins.

320 W would complete it in 49 mins and 14 seconds

80w increase to close the 6 mins😟

I not expect hounds pushing 80w more than comparable weight hare ... I see front group of hares finishing a good 2 minutes ahead.

So far we've got 28 riders but due to a combination of some people not having updated their names and some names being too long for the companion app to display them I've no idea how many hounds there are.

There's at least one hound though so that's the main thing.

And discord voice channels for each team - no cheating and listening in...(if there is only one hound you prob don't need to bother with discord!)

I've set them up, click on the link and sign into the appropriate voice channel - hares or hound and then go into settings and set it to push to talk.

If you don't set it to push to talk everyone will hear you panting and wheezing and that'll only get worse once we start riding.

(Ideally the panting and wheezing is going to be pay-walled onto our premium content patreon which DrP's setting up now I believe so we don't want to just give it away.)

If there isn't it'll be this post which is to blame!

"Ok ..10 min at 3.6w/kg …
Then when warmed up … Hammer down and try hold it till gap closes"

If you'd said "Ok ..10 min at 3.6w/kg … then settle down to 3w/kg for the chase" you might have had more help!

I will ride hound but tbh not up for a deep ftp effort - I can drive the flats but you will drop me on any real climb if you go hard (96 kg). That's OK - I'll hang on as long as I can.

Is it this one - says 30 km here?

We're riding the distance not the time - the time thing comes from me saying that Zwift Insider said a race lap of this course takes roughly an hour so setting an approx 10% headstart.

I've no idea how realistic this headstart is, I think it'll be relatively close given the hills but there's only one way to find out! Then next time we can say 5% headstart or whatever based on what happens tonight.

60 mins or 30k? big difference!

Hopefully about 6 mins!

Seems sensible Ivan, I mean the worst that can happen is the hounds all bury ourselves and that you have to pull the whole way round on Thursday. That'll teach you.

Just looked at my Strava stats from the only ride I've done on this course, 30.45K in 1hr 06min (I think there's a little ride to the start).  There's a couple of big hills in it IIRC.  Av speed was 27.4kph.  Was riding alone.  Av Watts 183 (FTP then was 207 and I'm 80kg).

Let's split the difference and go for 5 then, makes the timing a bit "neater" as well.

- Me too, about 3.5kg/W. (Southside Johnny)

Let’s split the difference and go for 5 then, makes the timing a bit “neater” as well.

- Good plan, it's a bit of an experiment so we just don't know how it'll work out.

5 minutes sounds like a good place to start.
A couple of people have said they're on the cusp of C and B - if that's the case I'd suggest they ride with the Hares - the Hounds are going to have to go at a very strong B pace to have a chance of 'jugged hare' for supper!

Realised that a 38T 1x set up is not ideal, couldn't keep up with the group on the downs and once you're dropped then its game over.
