So I want a coil fork for an Alpine 160. Was keen to go back to Marzocchi now that they seem to have put their problems behind them.
Was planning on the all-singing, all-dancing 55 RC3 Ti, but it now only comes in 170mm, which blows the warranty on the bike. Not internally adjustable apparently.
What's the damping performance like on the basic 55R?
performance = terrible.
weight = excessive.
stanchions = made of cheese (scratched badly after one ride).
if you don't mind the weight, just get some domains, they're ace.
I know its not coil but....Why not get the 55 TST2 air from Winstanleys? I've just bought a set.
They're heavy, but stiff as hell. Performance is plush.
They have been hyped but the Marzocchi range is terrible.
The only 140mm is a travel adjust, no 160s in RC3. Not internally adjustable. Shame, I was considering buying some.

Tapered or unspecified (which could be anything, really..).
If you break the bike swap the forks back to the original ones.

Check the axle to crown on the 170mm compared to the 160mm. I seem to recall with the 44 rc3ti the 2010 140mm was only about 5mm shorter than the 2011 150mm version. If it's such a little amount I would definitely phone orange and speak to their tech dept - they may judge that a 5mm axle to crown difference means bugger all (which would be correct!!).

Its a 160mm Alpine not a 100mm hardtail frame
Really want a proper coil fork - it's going to be used day in, day out in the Alps all summer long (hopefully for more than one summer!).
Just more peace-of-mind on the reliability front than air.

Those Micro Ti's no good then?

wrecker - they're an air fork though. Only negative spring is coil.
I run basic 55R's. Cant fault them really. Rebound damping does the job, and occasionally I squirt a bit of silicon spray on the seals to keep them nice and plush. Had them for two years now and still perform like new. prefer them over my 2006 revelations I had before
In that case I don't see whats wrong with the 55R.
