anyone had any successes/disasters with this scenario. recommend a suitable cage, and bottle? im sure ive seen them with hinge tops on to protect the mouth valve from dog shit?

Get something under those zipties or start saving for a new frame.
Halfords do the Elite bottles that have covers on
Done the same but with jubilee clips on a old steel frame. Very solid.
Had some bottles with dog-shit caps too. Think they were from decathlon. They were rubbish though as the nozzle was too small to get a decent drink from.
thats not mine, but coincidentally the same bike! yeah was thinking the same, ill prob add a layer of old innertube below..

You could use a Zefal Gizmo rather than zip ties, much more secure.

from decathlon £3. works well.
I've had that £3 one too. Good for a few months then the weight of the bottle made the bolts shear out of the bracket.
Either use some double sided tape to stick the inner tube or use some heli-tape (couple of layers). You want something stuck to the frame to prevent muddy water going in there and then drying out and leaving the mud/grit.

like the idea of the decathlon thing too but cant see it coping with bumpy stuff too well? be great with a better more secure strap system!

What do you think's going to happen if you drink from a bit of plastic that's been close to but not touching a bit of plastic the other side of which may have come into contact with dog poo?
Personally I never bother with bottle top caps or anything. I just wipe it off and drink away. Still alive. Expect most the poo I eat is cow and sheep I think. Less bad for you perhaps?

I think I define nasty poo as anything that makes you gag 😉 - human, dog, cat, fox etc. Meat eaters I expect. And no, that doesn't mean vegetarians poo is OK smeared on my bottle...

I just drilled some holes and put rivnuts in my frame. It's carbon too. People are paranoid about drilling frames. If you're sensible and careful no harm will come of it.
😯 until something unrelated does come of it and they void your warranty!?
Warranty isn't an issue on a Chinese imported frame 😉
