I did Dalby today too. Got there really early so was only 2 other cars there when I set off. Couldn't believe the amount of cars there when I got back. Insane!

1st & last race of the year today, up rocky bog roads, down heather covered bog. Little techy bit round a quarry. Great day.

It was all going well until I got to the ford at Wimborne St Giles (Dorset). A mile long and two feet deep at the shallow end.

Bloody hell dave that's bad! It was flooded in patches / the odd landslip onto the lanes on my loop today which dipped down to North Cadbury, but nowhere near as extensive as that!

Did a short, but hard 15 miler in Calderdale today from Hebden Bridge.

Muddy & slippy as owt in places, a distinct lack of fitness plus a heavy bike didn't help, but hey, I was out there & thouroughly enjoyed it.

Do you climb up to the top and then turn around and drop back down?, I never found a way to keep going towards LLanfairfechan The track seemed to stop at the top.

john_l did you do all the optional peaks?

Yup. Firle was ok, Bo-Beep was hard, especially the last 100m straight into the wind & the last one (can't remember what it was called) was a mix of carry/ride. Great descent back down though ;o)

Where you there?

Did 53 miles round the Hertfordshire lanes yesterday afternoon, lovely headwind for the last 15 home - when it also started raining.

Kiwijohn - we all hate you with your dusty, hardpacked trails you know.

Yeap chasing my club mates round, ashamed to say we missed the optional climbs, I was on my arse so it suited me, first proper ride of the year so found it tough.

Well done for getting round the whole course, I think it might be quite fun with less wind

Last ride for 2012 for me and my Bruv, got some nice bits for xmas ( reverb, superstar bars, grips, rotor, seal skinz, bender fender) first time I've been able to get out and test them. Well pleased with everything i got, really windy this morning but luckily not much rain. Out for 1.5 hours tracking on endomondo said I'd only rode 1 miles....... Happy new year peeps, here's to some dryer trails though.

70km this morning, out at 6.45 with herself, towed her 25km to work, said bye and then out to Ripley and back in through Cobham. A bit damper than I'd hoped for, but better than it could have been.
Takes me to a slightly disappointing 8251km since February - so I need to do at least 750km next month....

15ish miles to some dirt jumps and back on my BFe, yesterday, 2 offs and sore today making me realise I'm getting too old for this jumping lark. Still going out later I think, not quite ready for a soul yet.

A rather blustery 2hr ride yesterday morning at my old stomping ground with good friends. Despite the weather the trails were in reasonably good condition so we had an ace time riding as well as catching up and blethering about old times. It was also my first outing on my new 29er which I thoroughly enjoyed. Now looking forward to the first ride of 2013.

Mine was a good while ago. CBA with this weather, so I've not been out much. Might get myself a Whippet, because a new frame is always a reason to ride bikes again.

Top of Dirtlow Rake, mahoosive headwinds and rain almost, just for a split second, made me think gears could be a good idea <shudders>!!!

[img] [/img]

Did not see any other riders on the tops, saw a couple of other riders in the Woodbine later, including a very chatty roadie with his lad. The lad was about 10 with waterproof trousers, a big yellow kag and yellow marigold gloves to keep his hands dry. They had just ridden over Snake Pass and were heading back up the broken road then along Rushup - brilliant to see him getting out there and riding.

Last ride was on the rollers, 30 mins at 250 watts.

2012 summary;
Poor MTB racing season, cyclocross season was inconsistent with a couple of excellent weekend's and a couple of dire ones.

6.5 out of 10, could do better

2 of us did a 3 day ride from Derby to Crowden YHA and then followed Transpennine route to Worksop, through Sherwood forest to Edwinstowe YHA and then back to Derby. 290km in 3 days on loaded mtb's. Was good but now have a cold so having a quiet night in.

[I was also a little unwell over Christmas after a 16 hour night ride on the solstice - maybe I will learn one day]

SW Lakes, staying at the inlaws, started in Seathwaite, headed up the duddon valley to Birkes bridge, down to Grassguards, down by Wallowbarrow (not much grip on wet leaves!), up over hoses swapping to bridle trail at the top to stephensons ground, up long mire where the bike sank into the bog to it's axles many times, then down Park head road - 12 miles, 2,000ft and 2.5 hours. Not the best stats but bloody good fun!

I nipped on the train from Lancaster to Windermere and then rode over to Dubbs and then over Garburn to Kentmere. Up from Kentmere to Green Quarter and then HP Plantation and into Staveley and the...

for a gallon of ale and Cumbrian tapas.

Then a wobble to the railway station and home... hic!

PS Upon my arrival home my wife commented on how attractive muddy sweaty drunk men are...

Final ride...popped out on the cargo-bike to pick the kids up from a party. As soon as the other kids spotted the bike that was it. Suddenly getting in Mummies people carrier was out of the question so ended up giving them rides up & down the street. Had three of them of them on the back at one stage.

Just a spin around Steyning, Cissbury and Chanctonbury - but with mud so thick my mate's drivetrain ground to a halt and he pedalled his rear mech clean off. Changing one of those after it's been dipped in liquid sludge - now that's adrenaline for you.

I managed to tear a Dirty Dan as well.

Fun though - I'm making 2013 the year I do a gravity enduro.

With the kids tucked up in bed and the better half seeing sense in my madness I headed out o my local loop up to the 3 Brethern (Tweed Valley, Scottish Borders) at 11.00pm. Arrived at the summit at 11.40pm, too cold to stay about for another 20 minutes I had a dram to 2012 and welcomed in 2013 in advance! I finished the loop at 0100hrs 01/01/13. Quick shower and a tumbler of port therafter, with a bit of John Bishop for good measure.

It was a magical night. Last ride of 2012 and first of 2013 all within one ride 🙂

Like smiff and scottfitz "Sunday at a top secret hampshire location 🙂 "... and I came last.

A great day, though, followed by a ride home through the floods.... on the 500m of road=river section I met 2 cars, so I was glad I had some waterproof gear on!
