Can anyone help me with the following please:
I recently purchased a 2008 YETI 575 from Chain Reaction Cycles and during the process of the build I've been in contact with my LBS and they have told me that they cannot validate any warranty with the bike as it is an import. I don't really care if I can't, I didn't ask them for one, it's just every time I have wrong them up with a query or availability of an item they blabble on about it. Just looking for confirmation either way as I don't fancy making a phone call to Colorado.

Thanks guys

You bought the frame from CRC - the warranty is with them. Apart from that there is the SOG act. You're covered. Also Yeti seem like nice folk to deal with. Maybe a bit slow at times, and they've changed distributer, but you shouldnt be loosing sleep.

The LBS may be nervous as there was a big manufactuturer who changed distributer recently and the warranty process became a royal pita. That shouldnt happen to you.

As above, your warranty is with CRC. Your lbs are just acting butt hurt because you bought the bike elswhere as CRC have bought up a load of distro stock.

In the event of a serious warranty issue crc will replace your frame with a yeti if they have stock, or an equivalent if they don't. I wouldn't worry about it, I know people who've got cove frames as replacements for their sunns.

Reading the first post, I simply took it that they weren't able to register it with Yeti as it won't be down as a valid UK serial number.

Re: Chain Reaction

Dear Yeti Dealers and Distributors:

It recently came to our attention that Chain Reaction Cycles (CRC) is
selling Yeti frames discounted online. We were able to purchase a
frame from CRC and track the serial number to a distributor in Europe
who sold the frames to a dealer in Russia, who apparently sold the
frames to CRC.
We have not authorized CRC to sell Yeti product and have been very
selective in our distribution to prevent issues like this from happening.
Since CRC is not an authorized Yeti dealer, all product sold through
this channel will not qualify for warranty service.
We are sorry for any disruption this has caused and remain committed
to preventing this from happening in the future.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Best Regards,

Chris Conroy
President

found it for you.

By the way, I was looking to buy parts from my LBS Rorschach for them to fit plus they knew who I was as I spent over 2k with them 6months ago on a new bike and a service/rebuild on another.

nonk - that's interesting - but in reality CRC still have to stand by the warranty. And the SOG act - fit for purpose etc. If a frame fails I guess CRC could offer to repair and if they cant do that then the OP should get their money back.

Cheers Nonk,

Like I said I don't care either way if it comes with a YETI warranty as I kinda guessed CRC would sort something out IF an issue arrived. The end of the day the bikes are built in the same factory as a UK serial numbers so I'm not worried about quality issues and the price they're selling them for on CRC you'd pay the same for a second hand one that was scratched to shit and has had 3 years of use.
Thanks for posting the letter though as I was a little suspect as I honestly thought they were just being childish as I bought the bike elsewhere and not from them. I think they have a personal vendetta against CRC, they love slagging them off, I guess it was another excuses to slag them off 🙂

IME Yeti warranty service is excellent
IME CRC warranty service is pi$$ poor.
Unfortunately for you any liability lies with CRC as the retailer. I will never buy anything from them again (long story)

And I say their warranty support has been excellent when a Tomac FS frame went to meet the great welder in the sky.

In the UK, retailer liability is a such a great thing for consumers that it surpasses most manufacturers warranties which aren't created for our benefit but for countries with weak consumer protection.

If, however, you specifically want extended warranties from manufacturers that go beyond the expectations of the SOG Act then go to an approved retailer. But for most brands there isnt a compelling reason to do so.

By the way, theres nothing wrong with the frame nor are there any signs of there being any problems, so I have no issues with the bike at all, it was more to do with my LBS going on and on and on and on and on.

Stoner your right, CRC will do what ever they can to 'make it right' in my experience. I've ended up buying pretty much a complete bike from them and there has been issues with items arriving on time and they have more than compensated for it. A 2008 Yeti 575 with 2012 rock shox lyric u-turns, hope tech M4 with braided lines, hope hoops (evo 2 ZTR flow rims) and full SLX gearing for £2k thanks to their sales, xmas discount codes, some compensation discount codes along with some complimentary £10 voucher codes. I'm certainly one satisfied customer, even if it's taken a little longer than expected.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Crc (and a yeti dealer also when I owned a s/h arc) I'm sure if an issue should crop up that either and both companies would want a good outcome as usually bad press travels further and faster than good press.
