Any thoughts yeti users
i would kill for a asr5 carbon, but that is only because i like to be a flash bar-steward. the asr5 alloy is a really good 'keeper' as it is barely heavier than the carbon and has the advantage of an alloy main triangle (rear triangle is still carbon though).
as for asr5 or 575, i guess this depends on the sort of riding you do... for xc and light trail centre, the asr5 is all the bike you need... for more hardcore stuff, the 575 is well worth a look, although if i was buying new, i would be seriously looking at the sb66.
Thanks - my thoughts exactly. Have a 575 which is great but dind it a tad heavy on the long rides.
Am swapping for alu asr5 which will take bike down to sub 27lbs which I am hoping will work better for the big miles / enduros / marathons etc while retaining enough travel for tech trail use.
I think the key difference is how you like your suspension to feel.
The 575 is designed to allow you to run a plush set up with a good amount of sag (if you want).
The asr5 can't really be run that soft/plush, it works best with a set up that leans towards being more firm than plush.
That said the geometry of the asr5 lets you pretty much get away with riding anything (with 140mm forks). I have just used mine for an uplift day at Forest of Dean (albeit Fod is fairly tame as a DH venue), likes air time, handles big drops well, but cruically will then take in a long distance Xc ride happily.
In recent years have had 3 bikes (DH, full suss trail bike and hardtail), the asr5 has made me reduce to 1 bike as really does do everything well.
Hope this helps, am big fan of the asr5 is my first yeti having ridden most brands of bike over the years.
There's some odd statements here - FTR I am an ASR5 Alloy owner.
The ASR5 is NOT confined to "light" Trail use. Mine has the 120mm for and I've hammered it around the country over many terrains faster than I'd ridden on the two 140mm bikes I'd had before. Mostly that was done following a friend of mine whos was much faster in front of me on the same trails.
The ASR-5 CAN be set up plush. Merely using 30% Sag rather than 25% really changes its feel towards plush and also has a dramatic positive effect on its down hill credentials. I have mine set to 25% most of the time and then 30% fro trail centres. To say that its "works" best otherwise is a misnoma - I'd agree that for speed around general trails, and when I've used mine for racing 25% is a more firm "sports suspension" type feel (albeit not detremental at all). Don't be concerned that the ASR-5 is harsh in this setting - it isnt, but it wont move quite as much as the 575 at the same sag.
My view, the ASR-5 is much more of an all rounder, and is a "tighter" bike, and like the chap above it become my "one" bike very quickly. I feel its just more "special" than the 575.

Thanks all - good advice and information. Pretty much confirmed what i thought.
Any ideas about what weight it will come in at. Build is xt, hope, chris king - so good solid kit.
Am hoping sub 27lbs.
if weight is your ultimate aim then the carbon will save a bit, apart from the weight and the look there isn't much different in the carbon.
You can get a 575 sub 27lbs with sensible speccing. I've managed to get mine to about 26.5 and could make it lighter if I really wanted. so the weight has never been an issue for me. They are also suberbly efficient climbers with in pro pedal mode. For the grin factor on the way down I'm not sure why I'd choose an ASR5 over it, but it's a subjective thing!
I've been considering buying a Yeti ASR5c since they were released. I've resisted until now. I've booked a demo next weekend on the ASR5a and I'm really looking forward to trying it out.
From what I've read the bike should suit the type of riding I prefer and how I like to ride. Slack HA, up to 140mm tapered QR15 forks, bolt through 142x12 rear, 2x10 compatible, light, stiff, etc, etc.
Slightly concerned that I've built my hopes up and it doesn't live up to my expectations or the sizing isn't right. The medium may be too small but the large too big. Should find out soon enough ๐
I also got my 2007 all alloy 575 down to just over 26lbs with nothing fragile. I'm after a SB95 now though!
How do people feel about sizing. I am 6ft 34 inside led and tried a medium carbon out today and it felt really good. I think with a bit of set back would be even better. Wondered if i need to try a large - think it may come up a bit big
Thoughts?
