The present Mrs MTG has done a lot of cycling in the past, but no proper mountain biking until she met me.
I built up my old Santa Cruz Chameleon as a 27 speed for her to try and she liked it.
I then built up my old Kona Big Unit for her to try single speeding.

Without any prompting or encouragement from me other than saying it would be easier if we both rode bikes with the same size wheels, she prefers the 29er.

So, there you are.
If you ignore the hype and ask the opinions of someone who is new to mountain biking with no preconceptions which they prefer, 29ers win.

That's all that needs to be said on the subject.
No further comments will be necessary.
Although there are likely to be two veteran vegan single speed 29er solo endurance racers next year, so I'm not as niche as I used to be. ๐Ÿ™

Or she prefers singlespeed, or it's lighter, or it fits better. Poor control of variables, scientific method FAIL ๐Ÿ™‚

my wife said that my 29er rides like a clown bike compared to my 26" ones so that proves that they're crap...

Though she also said that it's a nice colour.

since we're going for scientifically proven statements ๐Ÿ™„

Reminds me off my ex, once asked what sort of car she had - I don't it's blue.

Maybe she prefers Single Speed because it's one less thing to worry about?

I am tempted to buy a 29er. The 2012 cube hardtails look well specced for the money.

Don't hang about then - I believe they are disappearing fast, even to pre-orders.
