[#7073380]

what sort of mileage are you getting out of chains running xx1 gearing?

done some calcualtions and I reckon ive only got 350 miles out of the last 3 chains ive had (all sram X1 chains) on race face direct mount chainrings

all in the peak district and a fair bit of climb per ride (in gritty conditions)

I am only using a park tool cc-2 chain wear checker for verification btw, but when I got them new the chains wouldn't fit in the chain checker suggesting its still working ok, but roll on 2 weeks and the chain is saying .75 worn already and and time for a change?

Not sure of exact mileage but i had my X01 groupset on for over a year now, still on the original cassette and chainring. 2nd chain that i changed when it got to 0.75. I don't put shedloads of miles in but i do a lot of climbing followed by long descents generally. Saying that i have just looked at my Garmin and the last year i have put a lot of miles in for me (1970).

I tend to get around 500 miles riding around Cannock. Try to keep it clean but change them regularly as I want the cassette to last. Using KMC chain here with the Unior Checker. Always found that park one was never that good as the pin would bend too easily and send the measurement out

you will find they need changing at .5 when using a Park tools CC-2.

I get around 500 miles per chain.

Yes, seems to work well.

From Park Tools website

"For the 11-speed chain, replace at or just before the 0.5% reading"

So thats what i have been doing.

I have been using X1 Chains on my X01 since they came out, 3rd chain on that cassette and on 2nd front chainring.

well in that case when I put my new chain on it already read at .50 on the cc-2 chain checker, how on earth Is it feasible to get an accurate reading off that then if its saying its worn brand new and they are recommending it being changed at .50

unless of course my chain cc2 checker is buggered!

I'm interested in this - I just got an XO1 bike and I would like advice on which tool to buy and when to change chains. I don't think my current chain checker is reliable enough, unfortunately.

ive purchased a shimano one, which im led to believe is the only accurate one out there, will at least confirm if the park tools one I have is fibbing or not!

The CC-2 is 10- and 11-speed compatible. For the modern 9- and 10-speed chains, replace chain at or just before the 0.75% readings. For the 11-speed chain, replace at or just before the 0.5% reading.

0.5% maybe typo, the vid is how I check mine and reads right

750 - 1100

Got two set-ups too. Both the same wear.

Lots of Rock n' Roll does the trick.

750ish

We used to use the Park chain checker with the pins at work, but if the pins are even slightly out of alignment it gives bogus readings. We had 3 which would give fairly significantly different readings!

So whats the consensus on a decent chain checker for 11 speed. I am not wanting to spend a mint but would like something half decent.

http://pardo.net/bike/pic/fail-004/000.html

Reading this it suggests they are all incapable of reading chain wear accurately bar the shimano ones

I have read similar by Sheldon too, so I've bought the shimano one (updated version) I'm not convinced by my park cc2 and as njee confirms its hit and miss reading wise

There's no way my chain is worn after 3 -4 weeks of riding

Hopefully the shimano one will come tomoz and I'll report back with my finding
