I have a problem with my rear 10 speed XT shifter. The lever that changes the gears up normally works in both directions. however, it now only works if you push it, pulling does nothing.

I realise the "work around" is to just push instead of pull... but has anybody else had this and been able to fix it?

Crud inside the shifter presenting the lever from being pulled?

Possibly, I'll maybe try a new gear inner when I get home. Just seemed odd that it just stopped working.... That bike is on commuting duties at the moment so is reasonably clean...

It might be frozen. A splash of universal maintenance fluid at body temperature might sort it.

Mine's done the same thing, it's had a fair life though. It's a good excuse to buy an iSpec one, if I can find somewhere which has them in stock.

Could it have been knocked into the bottom of the brake lever
Somtimes if there is pressure on the gear lever casing the shifters can do odd things

Problem solved... Brake lever must have moved slightly cause it was just catching the shifter... next time I shall have a closer look before seeking STW advice!!

A Boolean rethink is required!
