Hi

I'm trying to fit an I Spec B Deore XT shifter to a Hope Tech 3 lever and tearing what remains of my hair out.

I don't have a 16mm M5 bolt yet as I thought the bolt that came with the shifter would be enough. It's too short. I do have the M5 nut which I thought I needed but for the life of me I can't see where it should go. From what I can tell the bolt is the only connector needed?

Help? And thanks, Gerry

The square bolt goes in the space on the inside of the handle

Not sure where you mean to be honest

I don’t think you need the square nut, later levers appear to be threaded and not require it.

That was my thinking Momo. The lever is threaded. I think I just need a 16mm M5 bolt.

The whole problem is where that square nut should go. There isn't a recess for it on my shifter or lever. I have an I spec B shifter and a Tech 3 lever. Either I'm missing something (which is far from impossible!) or that diagram is wrong or out of date. If anyone has a a pic of the square nut in situ on a Tech 3 lever I'd be delighted to see it!

The newer tech 3s don't use the nut. That's used on the earlier version tech 3s with the holes rather than dimples on the lever blade.

Bolt only. From memory I think a disc bolt does the job

Excellent cheers for that sharpy. I have a few M5 x 16mm on order and i think one of them will be perfect.

Yes I've used a six sided nut as my lbs didn't have the correct one in stock and hope are quoting several weeks lead time

Thanks for taking the time to do that for me nbt. Much appreciated. Mine doesn't have the recess your six sided nut is sitting in.

Someone else posted about this last week, zooming in on the second photo shows the new version is threaded so it just needs an M5 bolt as already mentioned, surprised you don't have one knocking about, I've got loads but you could have just used one of your disc rotor bolts to avoid delaying your build.
