anybody know which one for triple crank set and what do all the letters mean SGS etc. ie it says on web sites gs should only be used with single and double chain sets ?????? i have triple chain set 9 speed. cheers.
SGS means Super Grand Scale, basically long cage. On Shadow mechs this should really be Extra super Grand scale because they sit even lower.
SGS is for triples, unless you're careful not to 'cross over' your gears, i.e. having the chain on the big cog and in the biggest three or four sprockets at the back. I used medium (GS) on my old bike and it worked fine, and a damn sight quieter than the great slappy long cage shadow mech I've got now...
SGS has a longer cage than GS,so can take up more slack in the chain, more suitable for a triple(bigger difference between small and large rings), but not strictly necessary if you don't use crossover gearing.Edit- just beaten to it.
