Its a 2 x 10 (24x38) and 11/36, not sure which is currently on it ! Looking at the on one PSA....Current one is 9.6cm centre to centre of jockey wheels..

I ran gs (medium) without any issue.

cheers, cant find anything on shimano tech docs that actually says the length of cage and the stamp on the mech just says M786..

When it speaks about 'length'...it means teeth capacity not actual length perse. There is some kind of maths behind it all which I think it goes into in the shimano docs. A GS will be on its limit with the combo you have, but like I said mine worked fine on both bikes.
Plus having a GS will be perfect when you eventually go 1x10 😉
