After being out on my Spark today (I’d thought about winter tyres) I’d actually prefer a HT for the winter months.

I’d like a few suggestions please.

Requirements:

XC
29er
Carbon
Fox 32 or equivalent forks
XT / SLX brakes
XT / SLX or Sram running gear

Not looking to spend mad money as it’s a winter bike only (I’ve got full XTR, SIDS etc on the Spark) but also not looking for a heavy old thing either.

Yes I can go on the usual store sites, but I’d like to hear a few recommendations / ideas to start with from you guys please.

Thanks.

If you can find one, a Genesis Mantle - exactly the spec you've described, with some flexibility for future reconfiguration if you fancy wider tyres / more travel up front etc.

Orbea Alma?

They seem to be turning out some really good bikes at the moment.

I appreciate how annoying it is when somebody responds to one of these posts with something you haven’t asked for. I am afraid on this occasion it falls to me.

If you want something for the winter, how about a gravel bike? Suspension matters less in the slop and with less moving parts it is easy to keep clean. Plus it gives you the flexibility to enjoy road sections if the trails are a mudfest (which after such a dry Summer and very wet start to Autumn they are around here).

I am something of a convert and certainly at the moment I would reach for the gravel bike over my hardtail.

Sorry for the slight diversion!

I have to say green Spesh Chisel comp ticks all the boxes (yes I know it’s aluminium) and seems a winner to. E.

Thanks for your input.

I'm selling a large Chisel rolling chassis if any use, but could be convinced to see whole bike? Ad is on classifieds.

I'll jump on here.

I've got a 45650b, set up SS, which is great, local, winter fun. Trouble is, it has quite a lot of overlap with my Ragley BigWig, so thinking about passing on the 45650b, and looking for a lighter XC/trail HT to run SS. Carbon/Alu, 27.5 or 29, 120mm travel. Not too steep in terms of HA etc ... Any suggestions, or anyone got anything (Medium) either as a full bike or frame?

Ah. Yeah. Should have mentioned the budget really. Would be only in the £100's ... not, I expect, what you'd be willing to let a SC go for? 🤷‍♂️

Love my Ragley Marley for winter duties. Maybe a bit more fun orientated on the geometry, and certainly not the lightest. But a great frame and decent spec for the money.

None of that meets your requirements though.

They just work, and all of £1k.
