To save anyone else wasting two minutes of their life, the gist of the article is that if you don't use a bike computer/GPS. initially you tend to look down looking for it, then you admire your handlebars, then you get used to not having a GPS and it makes sod all difference to anything.

Thanks! Never had one, so I wouldn't know where to look down for it ๐Ÿ™‚

I stopped using a GPS when I got a smar****ch. I might start again now that mapping seems to have vastly improved though, but only for audaxes or unfamiliar rides.

Similar to the article I just prefer not knowing how fast I'm, going, how far it is etc. If I really need to know I can glance at my watch but it's not 'there', which is sometimes nice on a long ride not watching the km's tick over painfully slowly and just enjoying the time on the bike instead. You can make a 200km Audax either a challenge to rode 200km or an enjoyable 7 hours on the bike, either way it's going to take 7 hours.

I still log the rides though, I just don't see the data till it hits Strava.

I've ridden enough of them to know it's going to take me longer than that.
