My mates asking me about what bike to get for his Mrs. He's an ex DH rider who will take his Mrs on blues, maybe reds but mostly XC.

C2w is up to 2k and he's happy to spend that for the right hike. There's a Liv enbolden on tredz for £1700 but the spec is poor for that money.

Any recommendations please?

My misses' riding has been completely transformed since getting her an ebike. If he wants to get her out regularly, double the budget and buy something electric!

What height is she? Does she actually need a woman’s bike? In many cases on bikes all that gets changed is slightly narrower bars (can be cut down) and a cheap woman’s specific saddle which quite possibly won’t be the right one for her anyway. (Liv are one of very few that do a ‘woman’s specific geometry’). If she is tall enough to not need xs woman’s sizes, it doesn’t need to be a woman’s specific bike and a few sensible adjustments can be made (maybe a shorter stem; her own choice of saddle); which opens up much more of the market.

If he wants to get her out regularly, double the budget and buy something electric!

A lot of assumptions here solely based on gender. Get the right bike for the individual (ebike or otherwise), irrespective of gender. Personally my riding was transformed at the start of my riding life by a decent bike that fitted, a decent woman’s specific saddle and some skills days.

Mrsbunk bloody loves her XS Liv Embolden but you are right that the spec isn’t amazing - the spec on the model up is much better value. No stock so went with the base spec 🤷 Rides really nicely, inspires a lot of confidence.

@Ashat is right though, if she’s somewhere around 5ft4 or over then any small bike should fit. Alpkit Sonder Cortex look good value.

Not bothered about an e bike, or spending a hell of a lot of money on getting one either.

Sonder was a good idea but they're out of stock until December. I think that's going to be a problem trying to find something in stock.
