...or are those sodding dust cover things impossible to get back into the fork lowers????
Pike Dual-Air forks, just popped the dust covers off, carefully cleaned all around the sliders with a little iso alcohol etc, allowed to air dry then added a drop of fork oil and lowered the foam rings into the oil - so far so good.
Then, an agonising 20 minutes trying to get those bloody dust covers back - GAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
sounds like it would be quicker to have taken the lowers off and changed the oil at the same time?
They're a sod at the best of times. Got an old bb tool that I use when the lower are off
You might have too much oil in the top also. But as above its no big job to take the lowers off, do the oil and rebuild them. That way you don't need to remove the seals at all. T
It was supposed to be a quick 5 minute job whilst my meal was cooking (bikes in kitchen)
I think i always put too much oil in the top TBH, i've not actually taken the lowers off before, sounds like it would be easier!
Far easier to take lowers off, and no chance of damaging lowers, seals or stanchions trying to prize them out.
Yep, lowers off allows you to clean far more thoroughly too.Swapped over the lowers on two new forks yesterday, couldn't have taken more than about 8 minutes from start to finish, so a lot quicker than farting about with the seals.
I don't know whether they're the same as the old Rock Shox stuff but when servicing the same part on Psylos I insert a ziptie between stanchion and seal to release the air that gets trapped when refitting.
Might be way off with that, though...
