..out? Methinks not

I'm a twerp. Last week I wore different shoes cos of the rain and left side felt odd. Put it down to the cleat. Then thought, could be the pedal.. pedal looked ok, kept forgetting to investigate further. On the way to work today.. hmm feels .. worse... clonk, there it goes. Have to ride home one-footed, sling it in the car. MTB cranks last forever - Dura Ace - 4 years old that is. Bought off the classifieds (was new), so can't warranty even if they would.
Can I use a XTR crank arm temporarily until the replacement turns up?
Is it a sticker?
Crank it up tight On the one bolt. That’ll get you home. I snapped a crank on my fixed wheel and had to finish the last 20 km on one leg.
I can't even work out what's happened, has it 'peeled' open around that hole?
dunno really - I'll check when it stops raining. But looks like the outer coating(?) has corroded and sheered through. Must've snapped somewhere on the arm though as it's gone so badly out of alignment.
I got home but where its so bent it contacted the chain stay, s'why I had to go one footed doing like half-rotations. Luckily had only got a few miles from home.
So the outer shell snapped - I guess the inner, dull looking alu part doesn't go right to the pedal insert, so hence the distortion.
Seen a few Shimano cranksets break/debond now is it a thing ?
This bloke nearly DIED! http://carlinthecyclist.com/epic-failure-ultegra-6800-11-speed-crank/
Just caused me to like, erm, stop pedaling.
Ah, maybe I should invest in a different crank
Haha, I love that he tried for a Dura Ace crank as an update, because lighter cranks must be stronger too, right!?
Shoulda gone carbon 🙂
How many folk have experienced similar failures and not lived to tell the tale...
🤔
Yay,does this mean that the older Dura Ace cranks are indeed Ace?
'glances at old 10 speed chainset' 😉
Posted a pic on Shimano's FB page - their response: RTFM. I'm never buying Shimano again! (Well, maybe some)
I can't see how they can claim that's user error, particularly?
had a similar failure with ultegra cranks. more common than you think
I can’t see how they can claim that’s user error
Nah, bollocks that is. Didn't expect anything, as they're out of warranty, but "use a torque wrench" is bullshit. I do- and they been on the bike 2 years with the current BB, I think too tight bolts would've revealed themselves before now! But waddoIknow
Oh, until I read the responses, I was looking at the crappy rusty weld on the mudguard bridge , or is it a brown/dead leaf, or dogs sh1t?
or is it a brown/dead leaf, or dogs sh1t?
It was a squidged berry. Did look like dog poo though 😀
Could always buy a 4iiii or similar crank pm, or look to buy the now spare crank off someone who now uses a left crank pm.
