And how bad would toe overlap be?

Wonders the same thing about a 456 with some rigid forks.

Not sure about your frame specifically but in general it seems OK (worked with my Zaskar)

559 erd rim + 2.2 tyre approximately equal in diameter to a 622 erd with a 23 mm tyre

As above. Clearance between tyre and seat-stay bit before it forks is reduced by only around 1cm - i.e. there should still be room for a 28mm tyre and a mudguard.

(excuse the blue turbo tyre - I thought that would make a clearer photo)

As for toe overlap, you also need to factor in whether or not you will be running mudguards as that will reduce clearance too. In practice, I don't think this is ever really an issue.

Druidh - thanks for that. I'm leaning towards a sturdy MTB-based build for my tourer as I'm concerned about my heft + luggage on a regular skinny tubed road-biased geometry machine.

Any recommendations for a suitable fork? I suppose a Kona P2 would be an option - owt else?

I'm running the Kinesis DC19s on my tourer - but then I don't want front panniers. P2s (even triple-butted) are pretty hefty but they do come rack and mudguard enabled.

Pity you don't know anyone with a Kona Sutra for sale....

Why are you picking 700cc wheels for a touring bike anyway? ๐Ÿ˜›

(I have a Surly Long Haul Trucker for sale !)
