[#1357425]

Agreed to join a bunch of regular riders on a trip upto the Borders! Now I've recently returned (november) to riding after a
good 15 year lay off! Bikes have come a long way and I've been pleasantly suprised how I hadn't lost much of the skill or the bollocks to hurtle over the edge of stuff. However I'm not sure what to expect up there, watched many a video but I've never done a trail centre before. So
a) will the lack of fitness kill me or
b) over confidence in my apparent abilities

a) It's quite a big hill, Glentress, and it's all in one go. But well designed, lots of rest stops etc. Use the singletrack climb not the fire road, it's easier and it's also much much nicer.

b) Nah. Well, maybe overconfidence but again, it's a very well laid out trail so you can roll everything, there's chicken runs around most of the tricky/scary stuff (though not all! 2 bits on Pie Run freak people out) and most importatly you can see it all coming. Just keep the head. Glentress red is mostly fairly easy at lower speed, it gets a bit more interesting as you up the pace but you can just not do that.

Oh. Halfway up the climb, you'll see a bit called Pennel's Vennel. Ride that, it's great but also it's a very good taster for the whole red, so it's a great "qualifier"

Depends
My 12 year old didn't have too many problems but was a bit tired at the end of the Glentress black

Start at Glentress and give the blue a go. Was just mentioned on here how much fun it is. I've been going for about 7 or 8 years and usually do a bit of blue, red and black. The blue sections are great for building your confidence and are great fun for all when you really go for it.

Nah the trails won't do it but the landmines, rattlesnakes and head height piano wire might do the job. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Rocketdog, the right hander with the rooty steps in, and the lefthander just after the short boardwalk, before hop skip and jump.
