Quite a few posts on here for mountain bike shoes which I'm sorted with shimano wide fit ok. But for road shoes I'm toiling a little. Have tried north wave and currently bont heat mouldable ones. But both have given me numb feet after couple of hours.

Mtb post seem strong on Lake, thoughts for road please. Shimano wide seem to have been my closest so far. As other forums say tho often wide isn't wide enough and it leaves you with loose heels.

Have you looked at Lake for road?
I'm pretty sure there's a guide on their site based on measurements you can do at home.

I tried quite a few and settled on Fizik being reasonably wide. I was trying various on in an LBS though. This was 4-5 years ago mind

I got some Lake CX1C shoes after suffering from hot foot on zwift, feel swelling up on long rides. They're the widest I could find.

Why do you need different shoes for wide roads as opposed to narrow ones? Surely having to change them mid ride is a pain in the proverbial and the other pair will stretch your Jersey pockets badly?

Lake is the default answer for road as well as MTB. They do normal, wide and even extra wide in some models. I have some and they fit me well. I highly recommend Dave at https://rxmcustom.co.uk/

Another shout for Lake, I have matching sized road and MTB, although their models aren’t immediately obvious as to which styles match across the ranges.

Lake fan here, but if your MTB shoes are Shimano have you tried their road shoes?

My understanding is that quite a few 'wide' models ( I think including Sidi and Shimano, but don't quote me on that) are really more 'high volume' than 'wide base', so that might be fine if your foot is sitting OK on the footbed, but it's all just a bit tight, since the material of the upper can kind of bulge out a bit sideways, and accommodate a bigger forefoot. But if your foot is really pushing down on the edges and is uncomfortable (this is what I felt when I tried some Bont shoes) then you'd be better off looking at truly wide ones.

I don't think there's any substitute for trying some on, the only tricky bit is guessing what will still feel good after hours of riding...

Lakes here, but since I also seem to fit normal Giro and winter Northwave I'm not sure my feet are even all that wide.

Either way, the most basic three velcro strap Lake shoes seem to come up cheap pretty often, certainly worth experimenting with, and I've yet to find any reason to upgrade now that I have them.
