Last year I ended up replacing both tubes after blasting through some thorns 😳 so hoping not to repeat that.

Probably just a local XC blast, don't wanna risk the hungover stressed out idiots on the road.

[quote=simmy said]don't wanna risk the hungover stressed out idiots on the road.

I was going to suggest that the roads are quiet on Xmas day (hence last year I went for a unicycle ride on roads I wouldn't normally ride that on), but then I remembered I did once have an altercation with a small bloke in a car on Xmas day - actually the only time I've ever had somebody step out of a car. I was told that I didn't help that I laughed at him when I saw how little he was and wanting to square up.

Only on the road bike, but yes.
Two days you really have to train, christams and your birthday

I wish, staying with the whole family, having left my family of bikes 50 miles away. There may be blood spilled this festive period. 👿

Absolutely 🙂 I'll be out on the road bike before dawn - I find it the most serene and reflective ride of the year, so have made a habit of it in recent times. Probably only be out for an hour, but I've been looking forward to it for yonks. Which given my general meh feeling towards Christmas is no bad effort.

I know what you mean MCTD, it's like walking along a tightrope.
Hope to get out for an hour in the morning for a bimble around Delamere.

Yup. Vowed to at least cycle the 20 mile 'hilly by our standards' route for a lunchtime beer in Oxford.
And 20 miles to the folks' house on Boxing Day.

Yup!

Road ride up the scenic Conwy valley in the morning on my own - a time to just appreciate how lucky I am to be healthy and live in such a beautiful place.

Mountain biking fun in the afternoon with my BF - playing around on Conwy mountain and keeping warm with some mulled wine 🙂

Sometimes it's good to not fit in with the 'norm'!

Whatever you're doing, wishing you all a happy Christmas 🙂

Usually go out for a local blast, but this year I'm loaded with a cold that I'm hoping to shift for a bigger ride on the 27th so think it's best to remain indoors and relax.

Not on Christmas day but was planning to ride on Boxing Day whilst the boss had a lie in but the front brake on the Rune has died. The master cylinder in the lever is not returning and as it's a Shimano XT jobbie no chance of striping it down.

Have just ordered a replacement from CRC in the Hope that it'll land on Saturday.

Those who are riding, you lucky so and so's.

I went for a quick 30km road ride round Pendle hill (600m or so of climbing) this afternoon, and will probably do a loop up road the other direction on Boxing Day - still only 45km or so - checking out what the riding is like round my parents new house.

I'm gonna leave it an hour or so, just been out with one of the dogs and its impossible to walk to the footpaths due to ice so ended up walking in the road but even that's slippy at the edges.

Enjoyed an hour out on the road bike before dawn. A wee bit nippy but very peaceful and pleasant nonetheless, back for breakfast and presents - all done! Merry Christmas 🙂

Went out early on the road for an hour and got back just as it was getting light. Loverly and quiet with clear sky and frost.

Don't know why I don't do it more often this time of year.

Cycle over to my family's big day tomorrow, parents, brother and his wife and kids. Yay.

I did a couple of hours round Mamil Central (Richmond Park) first thing. It was actually really nice early on; families out walking, kids playing on new bikes/scooters, some of the joggers and dog walkers were wearing Santa hats and some people were calling "Merry Christmas!" to passing cyclists.

It was genuinely heart warming.

Then it started getting busy with moron drivers so I left. 🙂

Well that ride has been freezing and it's sent the gunge out of my nose back into my left ear so I've now got muffled hearing on that side.

Really enjoyed it though, stayed off the roads as the couple of short sections I did had drivers behaving like its national be an idiot day.

Quick blast around the local cycle track (Greenway in Letchworth) trying to beat my PB for the route on my Fireline Ti 29er. Did it in 58mins odd - a couple outside my PB but had lots of big puddles, mushy leaves and a headwind for part of it.

I feel much better after eating all those chocolates (Terries segments!) last nigh & ready for the turkey........

Lazy lie in this morning (just me and the GF so it's allowed!), got up, went and collected her car from town (few ciders in town last night and walked home), came home, prepped the Turkey, got into cycling gear, then out for a 2hr spin round the local canals.

Did 16 miles at a leisurely pace, in lovely sunshine, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Just pulled the Turkey out the oven, and about to do the veg, then tie to get stuck in and back on the cider too! 😀

This is what Christmas is about, not pretending to tolerate lots of people you see only once a year just cos you happen to be related to them...

The rest of the family wanted a walk and I wanted to ride so we went over Clent. I rode up and down a fairly big hill lots of times in the hour and a half I had and found lots of cool, steep trails. So I'm happy.
