I have always used spa cycles for my wheels, but I want some wider rims, which they don't stock, so I thought I would give someone else a try.

looking for some nice strong disc wheels to swap between bikes. standard 9mm qr.

any reccommendations?

Try neil at Moonglu in Ripon, great guy. I've had 2sets of wheels from him, set of flow exs and arch ex all on hope hubs. Both sets still going strong.

Had a few sets built up by 18 Bikes who have always done a first class job.

PT Cycles have been recommended to me. They'll price match too

I'll give a shout to keep pedalling in Manchester.
Had a set of Dually's on Pro2's . Rock solid. Been bounced down Antur Stiniog and all sorts on my rigid, rims a re dinged up a bit but the wheels are pefectly true and I haven't needed to put a key to them once .

What's a reasonable price to pay for hand built MTB wheels?

I'm impressed with the 3 sets I've had from justridingalong.com.

source the rims yourself and pay your lbs to build them up.

Moonglu did me a set - they seemed great til they got stolen. Not saying that's a Moonglu problem tho!

Garage Bikes do em well I believe and a lad in Bristol built me a very nice set of hope Pro4 / flow ex that seem lovely too (ryanbuildswheels)

I'm sure it's not as difficult as Dave Hinde makes it out to be

Three sets from just riding along; faultless and I'm fairly hard on wheels as I'm relatively heavy and somewhat unsympathetic in riding style.

JRA and Moonglu for me. My LBS for my LB build

JRA are great for high end component wheels eg DT240s etc

If you like and trust your wheel builder have a chat about getting some rims and getting them to build.

Not mtb but Just Riding Along did me some CX wheels. 32h hope wheels with A23 rims. Done 3 race seasons, 2 3pks and thousands of miles on them. Still ok, Don't think I've even taken a spoke key too them either. Would definitely buy again.

Previously Merlin has been my go to for mtb wheels. Always seemed good. Again ran faultless and normally it was (shimano) hub failure or a crash that saw then end of them.

Had some from Merlin and they stayed true despite the fact that I'm 6'4", weigh nearly 18 stone and crash. A lot.
