Afternoon All,

Seeing as it's peeing down outside and thats scuppered my road ride plans for the day and the second weekend on the run and the prospect of snow and ice soon. I'm toying with the idea of a Turbo Trainer. But not sure about either a set of rollers or a stand style one.

Will I require a trainer tyre for both types??

Anybody have a Tacx T1000 Roller trainer??

Comments please.

TIA

Carl

All I can say is don't get a Tacx Fortius virtual reality trainer i.e. don't go to the top of the market. I've had one here for a couple of months as a PC setup/repair job, and first it was a pig to get working. Second on a few occasions I've 'tested' it and found it is nearly as boring as my own turbo trainer that is plain vanilla.

Just use old slicks if you have them.

Rollers can get very, very boring.

I reckon there's a big gap in the market that the Fortuis thing tried to fill but hasn't very well. It should be really easy to take a pretty much standard off the shelf set of rollers, create a computer controlled resistance motor for the back to create the impression of hills up and down, make some racing software where you can pit yourself against Lance and the like up some well known climbs and sell it all for a reasonable price.

I understand they can be very very boring, looking at being able to still ride the road bike when the weather is really bad, I'll still go out on the MTB no matter what but thinking rollers for an hr or so in the weeknights.

Won't be going down the Tacx Fortius virtual reality trainer so no worries there.
