Firstly, I’d like to say sorry as I know this is my second recent post asking for turbo advice but I need to be a bit more specific this time.
I was originally looking for a cheaper end of the scale turbo to fit my wife’s redundant 26” ht to and a few members suggested the Tacx 2240 on my previous post.
After a bit of reading around I understand a few turbos are Ant+ capable. Having a Garmin Edge 800 and Garmin FR35 I’d like to pair a turbo to either one of them to record ‘distance’ etc. I’ve done this previously with a cheap turbo along with the Garmin speed and cadence sensors. I know distance etc is everything but it helps me keep a track of all my activities on Connect.
What I’d like to know is, will any of the Ant+ turbos do what I’d like without having to purchase any additional sensors or dongles etc, or should I stick to the standard turbo plus Garmin sensors route?
Thanks.
Anyone?
I don't imagine that garmins etc will convert your power to "distance", unless you have a posh new one that can do ANT+FEC or whatever it's called (and can re-run a previous ride that you've done). They'd almost definitely record power though
... I could be wrong though - it's a wondrous world we live in
Surely for distance just attach wheel sensor to rear wheel?
I think they'd be calculating power and then Total stress score or similar metrics as opposed to distance. I'm not sure how useful distance would be as it would all depend on how hard the resistance was set?

+1
Distance is pretty meaningless on a turbo, effectively the heavier (and potentially therefore, less fit you are) the easier it is relatively as it's training to a power whereas the real world is more power to weight! TSS is useful if you swap between trainerroad or similar and real rides (if you don't have a power meter you can guestimate the TSS score fairly easily or use strava's estimate).
Thanks.
This is what I need to look into, previously I’d just smash a 25 mile ride out on the turbo but I’d have to look into how that translates into stress scores etc as it’s something I know little of to know what I’m gaining from my sessions.
