I've a few XC races coming up. Normally I just do them on my Meta 5. Its not a very racy set up but doesnt really affect too badly I think.
However I now have an On-One inbred set up singlespeed at the minute. I've enough bits in the garage and stripping the meta to build it up
Meta 5 has a pike 454 air, mavic 719 rims on slx hubs. Thomson finishing kit, easton ea70 bars, XT brakes.
All that would be swapped over to the Inbred with the pikes wound down to 100mm. I cant see it being much lighter all in, maybe 1lb? 1 1/2 lb? Just forget it and ride the meta 5 and enjoy the descents?
Which would you go for?
The one that's more fun to ride downhill where you're riding
Yep, whichever you prefer. It's not a racey set up either way, so its not gonna make much difference.
Or get a carbon fork from exotic carbon and have yourself a proper xc bike !!
I'd sooner use a Pike than a rigid fork myself!
I have a Meta 5 which is a heavy build - (coil shock and AM2 forks) It is great, of course..
Recently, I upgraded the work bike which is now a Kona Caldera with Carbon forks. I am so impressed with how effortless it is off road, I have bought it some light 100mm Suspension forks off here! The Meta is ace, but mine is a Particular drag if you are doing a lot of miles.
Have a rigid fork on the inbred but would prefer a little suspension for xc racing!
I'm leaning towards just sticking with the Meta for the initial race in the series.
Unless you are intent on winning just go with whichever is most fun.
Well I won a sports race on the meta 5 last year but have decided to move up a category this year so will be hanging on now in the extra lap.
I have decided to just use the Meta 5 for now and perhaps give the Inbred a lash in the later rounds.
