for women sizes)...what is the actual frame size for a 'petit sized' bike... is it 13 -14 inch, and is small 12-16 inch ? ordering a cannondale soon the new womens rush full suss, it comes in petite, small, medium.... the standover height for me inside leg measurement down to floor is just 29 inch ....... now a petit is 29.4 and small is 29 .7 shud i go for petite size...? im only just 5 ft 0 inch.... my hardtail is a 13 inch frame.
There is a difference of 1.1 inch in the toptube measurement too.
Can you try the Rush? Or even ompare the sizes with your hardtail?
The petit is 17" frame, looks short enough for you, but too tall really.
What's your inside leg measurement?
GW, rush petit is listed as 15.9 to top of seatube is it not?
sorry, 15.9" - just googled it and it seems you're right (thought it was 16.9), 29"+ standover still seems awfully tall for a 5ft rider tho.
there must be something out there way lower than that. Spesh womens bikes look to be lower.
Found the 06 Geometry Here.
Odd. The petite although lower in standover has a signigficantly longer top-tube.
Everything else remains the same except for that slightly diff. standover. The difference being about 0.3inch. ie 0.75cm. Not that much.
The long top-tube on the petite size is pretty long. It's about the same length as genesis geometry on Gary Fisher bikes for a 15.5inch (I rode one - that's how I know). Which would be way to big for you at your height.
By the sounds of it from the current sized bike you ride I would be looking at the size small due to the shorter top-tube length.
It would also offer you a more tuneable cockpit.
Obviously, standover is something you'll have to consider seperately.

Petit has a shorter toptube than the small on the newer model
HTTP404 :eh ? the way youve wrote that.... confuses me now....your saying the long top tube on the petit is long so you'd get a size small ? thort the petite would be 'smaller' ?
GW : how can the petit be 17" frame ?????

Elaine, I can only see the 06 Geo. (browser error on the 09). I assume the 09 Geo is no different.
22.6inch top tube is long for a "petite" bike. Standover is only slightly lower than the small. Seat-tube length is the same.
To get a good idea. Measure your current bike horizontal top tube. (Most the frames I have seen in your size are about 21.5inch)
Add a bit for the stem length and add a bit for your seatpost layback.
That's your current cockpit length (roughly).
You'll probably find by using an inline or a shorter stem you can compensate for the longer top-tube. But bear in mind tweaking those will alter the handling and ride position slightly.
Both small and petite stock by this weekend!
chevin member..... does that mean you,ll have both bikes in the shop for me to look at then ...
HTTP404 :::: top tube is 19 and a half..
i cant believe this cannondale is going to be too big for me ? arrrggggg please no !
Why are you so set on a cannondale? I'd have a better look around for something short enough but with more standover and ignore Women specific bikes.
What GW said, why a cannondale? there are other XS bikes about (Titus Motolites seem to be worth a look for very short riders)
well im stuck between specialized and cannondale i like them both alot,,, you wouldnt believe the bother im having with any bike i sit on... they are all too big, so thats why i have to stick with womens spec... no good getting a small mans as thats too big... my current specialized hardtail is 13 inch frame and suits me fine for height.... really really sruggling to find another bike that fits ?
the current specialized Myka HTs at 13in sizing run a top tube of just under 21 inches. An inline seatpost and what looks like 60mm-70mm stem.
Standover is about 25cm.
Top tube wise the cannondale feminine small would be a about 1.25cm longer but tweakable through saddle rail adjustment or a marginally shorter stem.
The standover however is 4cm taller.
Kona Four Lisa is a little lower? There must be more....
hmmmm abit pricy for the spec..id want better forks than dart two for £1,222 quid ! oh dear !
looking at around £1,300 for a full suss... but need decent spec for that... (thats why i was loooking at cannondale and specialized....
i sat on a size small "specialized safire", and couldnt even get on the seat properly.... id end up sawing the seatpost to fit me !! jeepers this is becoming a quest to find a bike that fits me and decent spec... anyone got a stretch machine that i could borrow ? fed up of my tiny tiny size . lol
