I was going to say Heckler as well Teetosugars.

So that's 2 votes.

Question answered, we can move on now. ๐Ÿ˜‰

i keep lusting for a 36'd heckler.
they truly are fantastic bikes.
only time i have done a drop bigger than 4ft was on my old heckler, and it laughed at it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Another for the heckler (36 floats and a DHX 5.0 coil). Best bike I've never owned.

Orange 5 pro, takes everything you throw at it. Not the best looking bike as many say (not me, i love it) a true do it all bike, as happy going uphill very slowly as it is being hammered down hill with the rider hanging off the back throwing it around, grips like a bery grippy thing and corners like it is on rails...

Commie meta6. That's what i use to do what you describe. Ace bikes. Despite the fashion for slagging them off - tho hopefully commie have sorted out weld problems for 2010! highly recommended.
So yeah, my bike!

If you have the money go for a Nomad if not a Meta 6. Not long had my Meta 6 but on the few outings I'v had its been top notch, much better than previous enduros I tried, although I haven't rode any of the new ones! Don't get a Lyrik 2 step as mine broke on the first ride after 80 min and are getting warranted at the moment. I'm told they need a whole new 2 step system fitted!

the bike you choose must surely depend on where you ride most and where your grins come from. If 90% of your riding is woodland singletrack, and you are an xc whippet, then a heckler with 36's probably wont be the right bike, but if its the peaks and lakes then an orange 5/heckler with a couple of build options might be the way to go

If you feel comfortable riding it, it doesn't matter what bike you have.
You'll get by riding it all.
If you asked which bike for racing all kinds of terrain?
I'd say Orange Patriot. Sliding shock mount to change geometry for everything from trail to DH. Can be built from 40 to 28lbs, solid, simple, reliable.

5 Spot? Which one Chunky? The best ever 4 bar, best ever Faux bar, or best ever DW short link 4 bar.
These are all the best suspension systems ever according to Dave Turner.
So take your pick.
IME they're all flexy as fech.

I had a heckler for a season in the alps, now have a Nomad. Same build on both (36vanR, DHX Coil) - the Nomad is a much more capable bike out here. But I'm not sure I'd have one if I had to ride up every hill rather than get the lifts...

So, on reflection - Heckler! Or a Blur LT would also fit the bill. A guest brought out his Blur LT - he spent most of the week on my Nomad mind, but he did say that they had a similar feel, like the Nomad was the bigger brother..

A bloke I ride with has a Cube Fritz, its a lovely bike, really light for the travel with 36's on it, and really pedals well for the travel on offer, ive not tried it on anything too testing but it ticks all the boxes for a do it all.

What about a Foes FXR?

OK the small bump response isn't quite as good as some however, point it down a hill and it's faster than pretty much anything in it's class over the rough stuff.

Also, you can stamp on the pedals and climb standing up with virtually no bob and no levers to flick.. worth a try if you can find a dealer near you (give jamie@balfa a call to find your local dealer).

One bike with one set of kit is not the answer.

Buy a bike for what you do most, and then for the stuff you do once in blue-moon buy additional components. So say 32/Revelations for UK, and 36 coils for the Alps plus a set of wider rims/tyres?

Love my Heckler, would of gone for a Nomad if I had the pennies at the time I bought my Heckler, although a 36 fox and coil shock would be the business instead of the 32 float & RP23 I have on it now. When I tested a Nomad it felt very plush and relaxed Geometry and laughed at rock gardens, would love to take the new Nomad & a 5 Spot out to compare.

Titus el-guapo going very cheap on the Jenson website.. and they will ship Titus to the UK (unlike Fox etc).

You'll have to add the usual 20-something percent in VAT and import duty but still a bargain!
