I "have to not be in the house this weekend" so it looks like I need somewhere to go. I'm not allowed to take the car and will probably have about £50 to spend, all in.
I can take the trailer and a tent if needs be to save on overnight costs.
I live near to the Peak District so somewhere not there if possible.
Road or mountain bike. Train from Manchester (or Stockport) to anywhere nice to ride please, if anybody would be kind enough.
Thanks - struggling to think straight (or for myself) today.
Does the £50 include the train fare?
Train to Windermere?
Road bike, train to somewhere about 150+ miles away and get yourself home, its a commitment mechanism 🙂
£50 (hopefully) for everything. I can't do much damage with £50.
Windermere you say? Road ride around the lake on Saturday and then ride home on Sunday? That could be a goe'er, thanks.
Another good idea by Titusrider, thanks.
Anymore? This could be ace.
Dunno how much the train would be, but roady bike on train to 'Nam, ride over Cleeve Hill to Winchcombe, camp at Hayles Fruit Farm (if they're open - info@hayles-fruit-farm.co.uk), big ride around the 'Wolds on Sunday, finishing back at 'Nam station, home.
Could maybe even plot a route out for you if you like. I'd offer you a bed, but we're away this weekend.
Awww, thanks Nettles. Don't worry about not being home, I'll bring a teddy and cuddle that instead. It'll be dark, I'll kid myself it's you 🙂
Is 'Nam Cheltenham? I went through there on my way to Bristol. Yuk! Makes Mesey Square look cosmopolitan.
I'll go and check train details.
I think heading to the Lakes is probably the best idea.
But seeing as your mentioning Manchester there are fairly quick train from Manchester to Stafford or better Rugely (1:20 hour).
You could do a chase route from these stations.
Surely the best thing to do is type in Machester to Where-ever on National rail a few times to get an idea of train times ?
In fact train is even quicker to stafford/rugely from stockport.
Its only 45 mins to stafford 1:05 to rugely.
wrexhams not to long to get to either could you get to Llandegla from there ?
less than an hour stockport to delamere ?

Yup, Cheltenham. And which bit were you in, 'cos 'Nam is mainly pretty posh, definately more Alderly Edge than Adswood 🙂
The Cotswolds has some fab roady riding though, especially at this time of year when the off-road stuff is predominantly a glutinous horror-fest.
Thanks for the suggestions scu98rkr. I've ridden to and around both Cannock Chase (admitedly only Follow the Dog though), I didn't like it and Llandegla (not since the new'er stuff opened) - I did prefer the natural rather than man made over there.
I could give Cannock another go. Ride down, camp, do the Monkey one and get the train back...hmmm. Delamere is a regular cake stop on a Chester and back road ride but it has woken my brain up to maybe a wild camp at Loggerheads Country Park. Moel Fammuaaua etc.
Thanks all for the suggestions so far.
Nettles. Just realised. It was Gloucester. I stopped for a Maccy D's, got shouted at for walking my bike and trailer through the shopping centre by a traffic warden or some such and somebody tried nicking the bag off the trailer when I stopped at some traffic lights. Very Adswood but not quite Poynton 🙂

I can't believe nobody's called you on this. Why aren't you allowed in teh house all weekend? AND if she/he wants rid of you, why are you accepting a tiny budget? £50 is not going to buy many tequila slammers and lap dances is it? Negotiate UP, then come to Bris-vegas and go super-size.
Train to Settle, big dales loop to Pately on Sat. Different Big Dales Loop back to Settle on Sunday.
Dales is a good shout- one of the few places in the UK where you can get off the train and be right out there where you want to be.
I have to not be in the house this weekend by my own violition.
No car and very limited funds is wife's insistence. I've done this a few times but an overnighter that turned into 10 days in Scotland and a melted credit card.....the family are nervous.
I don't drink and neither love nor money would get a female dancing on my lap, trust me 🙂 "Bris-vegas and go supersize" - Mint!
Gloucester? Eek.
It's not great, it's dirty, full of nutters and in the evening there's the air of casual violence about the place. Kind of like Offerton 🙂
Hmmm, road riding in the Yorkshire Dales. I may have a winner, thank you.

FAO: Nettles.....hahahahaha! The land of my youth hehehe, mint.

You'd be surprised, some of those girls have the morals of an alley cat (well the best ones do) 😀
After all that, I came off in the park this morning and whacked myself all down my left side.
Specialzed Fast Track 2Bliss tyres don't like slightly damp tarmac on left hand cambers.
Busted a few bits of me. Carbon Crank Bros bars, SLR saddle, foam grip, Skins bibs, Specialized helmet.....bugger!
I'm very grateful for the Specialzed helmet. It's well and truly doomed now.
I was going up to Settle. Booked and paid for the train ticket.
Arse!
